To Mrs Hollern, Pat and your growing family to carry on the "Irish" , we pass on our deepest sympathy on your loss of a tremendous father, teacher and individual. Myself, my wife, and all three of my children all had the pleasure of going through McCort with the positives that "Skip" brought with him everyday. A total class act not soon to be repeated. May God comfort you all.

I was so sad to hear about the passing of such a wonderful person. Mr. Hollern had a true passion for his students and we all felt the same way about him. No other teacher could make World Geography as interesting as Mr. Hollern!
I will certainly miss him and I am sure every McCort student who had the pleasure of sitting in his classroom can say the same.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Hollern's passing. Even though we only had him our freshman year for geography, I fondly remember him, years later, standing in his doorway between classes ... always addressing us, & remembering our names even though we no longer had him for class.
McCort has lost a wonderful teacher, role-model, and friend. He's no longer suffering, but we are without him. He will be missed by many. Condolences to the family -- I'm sure his grandkids will grow up knowing what a special guy they had for a grandfather.
Mr. Hollern, we will never forget you ... and will always say a special prayer on St. Patrick's Day, in your memory.

I am sorry to hear about Mr. Hollern. He was one of the kindest people I have ever met. He made learning about geography fun, which is practically impossible. I remember his love of all things Irish, how he would take all the Irish kids to his map to show us where our clan was from. I am so lucky to have known him and so sorry for your loss.

Sharon, Patrick and Family,
Seems like only yesterday that we were one big happy Arbutus family. Our boys took the field and we shared the concession stand and began new friendships. And even though our paths went in different ways I have always regarded those times with fondness. I hope that all the wonderful memories you have had with Paul will be a comfort to you. God bless you all and please know that our family will remember you in our prayers.

Dear Hollern Family,
My memories of Mr. Hollern go back to 7th grade, as I watched him pick up the Sisters of St. Joseph who lived at the school I attended and worked at Bishop McCort. Later I attended Bishop McCort and while I didn't have him as a teacher, I felt his influence greatly. I was honored to have a wonderful conversation with him when his mom died recently. Now, as a sister myself, I remember his great kindness to women religious and I am certain that God is blessing him with joy and peace in the kingdom of Heaven. Know of my continued prayers for all of you. I work at St. Benedict and will be singing at the funeral, as my gift to you and to Mr. Hollern.
With my deepest sympathy,

Sharon,Patrick and family,
We send heartfelt symapathy to you. Paul was a long time, next door neighbor, to my mother. He was a considerate, gentle, unassuming friend, who always found a way to help her with numerous chores. There was always time for talk, a smile and a wave in his coming and going. This kind of neighbor is hard to find. Pauls kindness will remain in our hearts forever. He truly was a servant of God. In time may your sorrow turn to smiles and memories of you life together.
Sincerely,
Linda and Michael Carrigan

To All,
Thank you so much for your kindness and unbelievable support for our family during this difficult time. It is truly humbling to read the entries and heartfelt words that you all have mentioned. My dad was my best friend and my role model and that's an awesome relationship to have with a parent. Again we thank all of you and truly appreciate your support.
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Sharon, Pat, and Family,
When we heard of Paul's death, we couldn't help but recall what a fine man he was. He will remain forever in the hearts of all those who loved him. I was in his 1967 World Cultures class at McCort. He was a wonderful role model for so many McCort students throughout the years. It was quite a surprise to meet up with him again years later when our sons played baseball at Arbutus Little League. Paul was a wonderful neighbor and friend to the Parker family.

Dear Hollern Family,
You have my deepest sympathy during this difficult time. Mr. Hollern made my freshman year at McCort wonderful and I enjoyed talking with him about Notre Dame football throughout my high school years. I saw him at the beginning of this school year during an open house. It was wonderful to see him back in the classroom and I’m grateful that I had a chance to speak with him one last time. The old building will never be the same. He’ll be in my thoughts on St. Patrick’s Day.

Dear Hollern Family,
The news of Mr. Hollern's passing saddens me deeply. As a BMHS graduate, there was never a day you would walk by him without a smile and kind word. He was truly a great and caring man and devoted teacher. I will never forget celebrating St. Patrick's Day in his classroom! I'm sure your family has many wonderful memories to look back with in fondness also.
Being a teacher myself now, I hope to have the same positive affect on my students as Mr. Hollern has had on me and many others who have had the opportunity to sit in his classroom. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Sharon, Patrick and Family--
I am so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. Even though he wasn't able to beat this terrible disease, perhaps there is some comfort in knowing that you did everything you could to keep it at bay as long as possible. Try to remember all of the good times--the smiles and hugs and laughs and maybe the bad times will fade away. We will be thinking about you.
PS. I'll never forget the impression Paul made at our wedding when two of our groomsmen(both McCort grads) wondered how Mr. Hollern came to be invited to the festivities!

I would like to offer my sincere condolences on the loss of your husband and father. Mr. Hollern was one of the greatest men I have ever encountered in my life. I often thought that if I didn’t have my own dad, I would want my dad to be Mr. Hollern. He had the rare combination of intelligence, wit and kindness.
