Paul Keane Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 3, 2025.
Paul R. Keane, of Greentree, Shaler, died on January 31, 2025, age 74, from a rare, insidious neurological brain disease called cortisol basal degeneration (roughly akin to Lou Gehrig's Disease.) Paul suffered gracefully; never bemoaning his fate.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, and two daughters, Caroline and Deirdre.

Paul was a devoted father. Paul's life passion was writing: he earned a Masters in English at the University of Chicago and became a writer advisor for the Center for Disease Control. Paul also produced numerous screenplays and lived in Hollywood for a period of time. He traveled the world for inspiration but always remained steadfast to his Pittsburgh roots.

Most notable to this writer was that Paul, when he lived in Shaler along with his wife and two daughters, on the adjacent property to the parents of Mary Jo, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Adlesic, I Igraciously rendered any service that he could, when asked (and he was asked often): everything from repairing lawn mowers to activating a remote control to listening warmly to the life stories of Mrs. Adlesic to eventually lifting her and sweetly putting her to bed most nights.

Paul and the author here became best friends upon meeting . We had many engaging and stimulating exchanges. Paul was always quick to a smile and a laugh. Our most fun adventure was to attend a Shane Macgowen concert. Paul looked like an Irish gangster and he loved it.

Ephesians 4:32: be kind and compassionate to one another and forgive each other as God has forgiven us.

May the Good Lord, with His infinite Grace, now embrace Paul and bring him to a peaceful resting place: in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Amen.
