Paul Kit Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 28, 2023.
Paul Gregory Kit (1967-2023)

On October 10, 2023, Paul Kit, loving husband and father of two children, passed away after a brief but courageous struggle with leukemia. Paul was born on January 9, 1967 in Hartford, Connecticut to Harry and Maxine Kit. He grew up in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where he loved working on cars, motorcycles and fix-it projects with his dad. He excelled at school work and showed strong business acumen by launching the high school's bookstore and bringing Junior Achievement to the school. When voted "Most Serious" in his senior yearbook, he retaliated by holding a prop encyclopedia upside down and adding "football lineman" as one of his skills (he was responsible for painting the lines on the football field prior to games). A northerner at heart, he may have been the only kid in Florida with hockey posters on his walls and a goal net in the driveway.

He attended the University of Buffalo where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and met and married his wife, Michele (née Manns). Together they raised two children, Jordan and Cameron (aka Chloe) while living in Buffalo, NY, Kenmore, NY, Marshfield, MA, Chesterland, OH, and Cleveland Heights, OH. In his early professional life, he traveled extensively throughout North America, South America, Europe and India; building lifelong relationships.

Paul was a strong leader, mentor and friend in his work life including his time as President of the Northeast Region with Flatiron Crane Operating Company and his 20+ years with Simmers Crane Design and Services. Paul's adventurous spirit and drive to learn led him to pursue his Master of Business Administration Degree from Bowling Green University, which he received with a 4.0 GPA on August 5th, 2023.

Paul loved to relax with friends and family, and was extremely generous with his time, resources, and vast skill set. He spent a great deal of his valuable free time on projects around the house to make it a more comfortable and inviting place for friends and family. He looked forward to speaking with his mother by phone, every night and visiting with her when he could. Paul had a lifelong passion for ice hockey and continued to play later in life from 2015-2020 in his local recreational league.

Paul is preceded in death by his father, Harry Kit. He is survived by his wife, Michele Kit, his children, Jordan and Cameron/Chloe Kit, as well as by his mother, Maxine Kit, his sister, Sharon Kit Ryan, and his beloved pets, Fiona, Lady Kensington, Bacchus, and Luna.

A celebration of life gathering for friends and family will take place on Sunday, November 12th at Paul and Michele's home in Cleveland Heights, OH from 12:00pm-4:00pm and a second gathering will be held that evening, beginning at 4:30pm, at the Kensington Pub at 2260 Lee Rd, also in Cleveland Heights, OH.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter or Cleveland Heights Youth Recreation Fund in Paul's memory and cherish daily, the precious gift of love, family and friendship.

I missed you quietly today. So quietly that no one noticed.

I missed you as I climbed out of bed and as I brushed my teeth; when I waited at the lights on the drive into work and as I heard the rain outside my window.

I missed you as I ordered lunch and as I kicked off my shoes when I got home; as I switched off the lights and climbed into bed for the night.

I missed you without tears or noise or fanfare.
But oh how I felt it.

I felt it in the morning, at lunchtime, in the evening and at night. I felt it as I woke, as I waited, as I worked. I felt it at home, on the road, in the light, in the dark, in the rain.

I felt it in every one of those moments, each one sitting heavier and heavier as the weight of me missing you kept growing and growing.

Yes, I missed you so quietly today.

But I felt it so loudly.

Paul welcomed me to HS when I loved to FL in the 10th grade. He was a friend from that moment on.

I knew Paul well in junior and senior high. To this day whenever I see the NY Islanders I think of him and his admiration of their early 80's dynasty. He had a very dry and witty sense of humor. Just an all around good guy. Go easy Paul.

I will always cherish my time with Paul. To his family that he loved so, I thank you for sharing Paul with us. His guidance over the past 20 years remains with me and I take great comfort in his gift of friendship. He is deeply missed. Please accept my sincerest condolences.

Paul was my first friend when I moved into a new high school my junior year. Words are not enough to explain the influence he had on the person that I am. My sons are both enormous hockey fans and played throughout high school as a direct result of Paul´s passion for the sport.
I always regretted that we did not live closer in adulthood and was jealous he was fortunate enough to marry and have kids at such a young age.
I will forever miss him.

Paul, Michele and Cameron were our neighbors on Somerton Road. They were always generous with their time whenever we had a need. Both at our home and our two apartments , Paul would come at the drop of a hat to assemble our bed (on moving day), install bathroom cabinets and bars, and hang wind chimes. Michele and Cameron even carried in our live Christmas tree at the house.
Paul was one of the kindest people we have known. I told him he was my surrogate son. Our caring and sympathy go out to Michele, Jordan and Cameron. May the loving memories you have of your husband and father, and the support of family and friends carry you through the difficult days.
We love you all.

Paul was my mentor at work and good friend for 16+ years. He hired me straight from college before I knew what an overhead crane was and now it's become my career. My family and I owe him a lot for his support over the years. He always had time to chat when I needed advice for work, family, etc. I will forever be grateful for that time. Rest Easy PK.

We were great friends growing up together. We enjoyed many of the same things especially music. One of my favorite memories with Paul and Michele was going to the Jimmy Buffett concert in Massachusetts. He loved the music and sharing it with family and friends.

I knew Paul only during his time with Gantrex some 35 years ago. He was a most enthusiastic and ambitious young man with wisdom way beyond his years. Our condolences to his family. We will be thinking of them on Nov 12. He was taken from us long before his time and will be sorely missed by the communities that he served.

Paul was such a kind hearted and generous man. The Manns Kit family took me to my first ever showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show, and it was such a fun and wonderful night. Thanks, Paul, for everything you have done for my family.
