Paul Kovac Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 6, 2007.
Paul Frederick Kovac, 78, of St. Joseph, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007.
Paul was born June 12, 1929, in St. Joseph and married Eva (Plekan) Kovac on Nov. 20, 1948. They were married 51 years until Eva passed away on Jan. 27, 2000.
Paul owned Kovac's grocery store, which his father started in 1941.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, driving his fire truck (in the South Side parade), friends and family. He was involved in numerous local activities to better St. Joseph and his church. He was a very active member of St. James Catholic Church.
He served on St. Joseph City Council from 1972 to 1984. He was president of the Retail Grocers Association of Kansas City. He was an active member in the South Side Sertoma Club.
He also served his country in the Marine Corps
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Eva; his daughters, Jeannette and Theresa; and his parents, Charles and Frances Kovac.
Paul is survived by seven children and their spouses, daughter, Mary Logan and John; son, PJ Kovac and Mila; daughter, Sharon Edwards and Scott; son, Mike Kovac, and Tami; son, Mark Kovac; daughter, Michelle France and Todd; and son, Matt Kovac and Charity; 24 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his brother, Charles Kovac.
Paul was a very loving father. He was always there when any of his kids or family was in need. He always had a smile on his face and would talk to anyone that crossed his path. He was a go-getter and always on the move. His life was built around his family.
We couldn't have asked God for a better dad. We all love him and miss him so much. We could write a novel on all the loving acts our father poured upon us, but God has them written down in his book.
We want to thank God for the blessings he poured out to us through our dad, and for all the friends and family who have helped us through this time of need.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church, St. Joseph. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation will begin after 11 a.m. Thursday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Mr. Kovac will be removed from the chapel at 3 p.m. Thursday and taken to St. James Catholic Church, where visitation will resume at 5 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and a rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church.

Paul was in my class at Benton (1947) and at our reunion last summer he was his usual great self bragging that he had more grandchildren than anyone and giving all the ladies such sweet sincere compliments and razzing all the guys. My parents admired him so much because he treated them so well as customers and friends. I am still in shock that this lovable fellow is no longer with us but I know he continues to be busy smiling, organizing and shaking hands... his Eva at his side. He was a true peoples person!
To his family ... my prayers ... God did bless you with wonderful parents.

December 7, 2007

On behalf of the entire Mejia family, we express our condolences.
We are saddened to read about the loss of Paul Kovac by his family and the entire South Side of St. Joseph. Paul knew The Mejia Family well and the Mejia family knew his father, "Charlie" as we called him, very well since the time he was the Butcher at "The National" Grocery Store. Charlie and Paul knew us by name and on my visits to his store, even in later years, he would always greet me. He supported many causes and we think that the entire City of St. Joseph is lessened by his passing.

Paul was a great friend to all he blessed with his generosity and faith. I witnessed his devotion to the community over many years, as a student at Benton and when I worked at Inter/Serv Wesley Center. He was always willing to help and provide tournaments for kids to play basketball or run track and field. Many kids in southend and around St. Joseph have been touched by his kindness. God bless you Paul and all your family at this difficult time.

Paul,
I am sad to see you go. I will always remember seeign Uncle Paul in the grocery store when I was a kid and he would always stop and say hey, looking down over the top of his reading glasses. I will always remember our trip to Rome in 2001. Hope you and Eva are happy and together again. Gald you didn't waste away and grow sicker and sicker, you lived life until the last day.
God Speed and Rest in Peace.

As HUGE as our family is, especially now, 3 generations later, Great Uncle Paul ALWAYS remembered all of our names and went out of his way to say "Hello". To all the Kovacs, I'm sorry for loss and will pray for you all. He was such a genuine man, with a mission to help as many people he could. He is in a better place now with his bride, Eva for eternity! Love, Mike Daffron

Paul Kovac was a man to be respected.

He cared a lot about the people
of the South Side as did his Father.

When I saw him at the store, I always said "Hi Paul Kovac" and
he would say "Hi Louie Mazur."

My wife Debbie and I would like to give our prayers to the family at this time.
