Paul Macneill Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Dec. 15, 2007.

MACNEILL Paul Clark April 9, 1954 - December 9, 2007 After a lengthy, dignified and heroic battle with cancer, Paul passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2007 in Vancouver, B.C. surrounded by his wife, Debra and close friends. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 20 years, the love of his life, Debra, and by his two sons David and Daniel for whom he was mentor, role model and loving father. He is survived by his parents Kathleen and Wendell MacNeill, his brothers Ian (Iren), Bruce (Denise), and his sister Seonaid. He is lovingly remembered by his mother and father-in-law Rose and Ted Windjack and his brother-in-law Gil Windjack (Nancy). Special uncle to his nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his extended family, many friends and colleagues. Paul attended the University of Toronto schools, York University and the University of Toronto. He graduated from the University of Toronto Law School and was admitted to the Ontario bar in 1981 and the British Columbia bar in 1982. He practised securities law with the Vancouver law firm of Campney & Murphy until 2002 when he formed his own firm, MacNeill Law. He was the director and officer for several publicly traded companies. He was a strong supporter of the arts and was on the Board of The Dance Foundation and president of the Board of Kinesis Dance. Sincere thanks to all those family and friends for their support and love throughout Paul's illness. A special thanks to the dedicated and compassionate physicians who treated Paul over the years, Dr. David Landsberg, Dr. Clay Smith and particularly Dr. Heather Leitch, as well as for the excellent nursing care he received in the medical short stay unit and palliative care ward at St. Paul's Hospital. Paul died as he lived his life; a fighting spirit to the end. He inspires us in his dying as he did in life; with his courage, determination, focus and optimism. He was a man of tremendous intellect, command of the English language, wit, humour, generosity and charm. Paul, we love you and will miss you. In lieu of flowers, donations to the B.C. Cancer Foundation, in Paul's name, would be greatly appreciated. A celebration of Paul's life will be held on Friday January 11th, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at the Capilano Golf and Country Club, 470 Southborough Dr., West Vancouver, B.C.

Paul's classmates at UTS remember him for his energy, enthusiasm and always present good humour. His passion for his pursuits made UTS a better place. I extend my deepest condolences to Paul's family.
