Concepcion, Chile - Paul Carlson Minning departed his earthly home in Concepcion, Chile, on August 29, 2024. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 6, 1937 to Carl A Minning, Sr., MD and Pearl Zeek-Minning, MD. Paul graduated from Williamsburg (Ohio) High School with multiple honors, and then pursued a bachelors degree in physics from the California Institute of Technology, where he graduated with Academic Honor on June 13, 1958. Paul then obtained a Masters Degree in Physics at the University of California at Berkeley. One of Paul's lecturers was physicist Edward Teller, whose ideas greatly influenced Paul's life. He then went to Chile on a Rockefeller Grant to teach for a year at the University of Concepcion. He enjoyed his position there and continued teaching theoretical physics and doing research at the University until his retirement.

Paul is survived by his wife Lily Campos of Concepcion, Chile, whom he married on February 2, 1971. He is also survived by his half brother, Carl A. Minning, Jr, MD (Joan) of Zanesville, Ohio, and their two children Abigail Anderson (Sam) and Christopher Minning, MD (Lindsay). In addition to his parents, Paul was also predeceased by his sister Lois Lipskie (Larry). A service was held in Chile on Saturday, August 31, 2024, and Paul was interred at the Cementerio Parque del Sendero in Penco, Chile.

Paul had a brilliant mind and I was so blessed to get to know him. He and Lily shared their home with me during my visit to Chile. His family stories and those of his adventure on a motorcycle from California to Alaska will stay with me. Rest in peace cousin.
