Paul Overbay Obituary

Paul Liningham Overbay Jr. Paul Overbay, 74, died Monday, August 15, 2011, at his home after a brief illness. Prior to retirement, Paul was self employed for over 20 years as a computer systems contractor. He was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and ETSU. He was an Eagle Scout and also a veteran of the Air Force. Paul was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Laningham Overbay Sr.; sister, Carol Byers; and brother, Cyrus Peters. He is survived by his wife, Anne Cumbow Overbay of Kingsport; children, Paul Laningham Overbay III and wife, Sara, of Johnson City, Jonathan Henry Overbay and wife, Dina, of Johnson City, James Theodore Overbay and wife, Candice, of Jonesborough; mother, Helen Godsey Overbay, Kingsport; sisters Eloise Shivell and husband, Jeff, of Kingsport, Zelma Stroud, Brentwood, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Don Cumbow and wife, Sandy, Abingdon, Va.; five grandchildren, Hank Overbay, Tate Overbay, Ella Overbay, Gracie Overbay, Brenna Overbay; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Pallbearers will be Paul Overbay, Jon Overbay, Ted Overbay, Hank Overbay, Tate Overbay, Jeff Shivell, Phillip Shivell, Robert Stroud, Perry Peters, Will Byers and Don Cumbow. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Ste. 102, Johnson City, TN 37601, or to the charity of your choice.
