Paul Jerome Peterson was born October 3, 1935, in Atwater, Minnesota, to Clara Amanda Holseth and George Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Atwater, and graduated from High School in 1954. He joined the Army after high school, served and was stationed in Korea until the fall of 1956. On August 31, 1957, Paul married Shirley Ann Hovey at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and they made their home in St. Paul, Minnesota, until July, 1961, when they moved to Cosmos, Minnesota. Paul barbered in Cosmos until June, 2013. Paul was a Lion's Club and Legion Member, and served on the Cosmos City Council. At Peace Lutheran Church he was a Bethel Series Bible Study Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, Confirmation Mentor, and Church Council Member, and acted in many community plays. Paul and Shirley were janitors at Peace Lutheran Church and First State Bank in Cosmos for 28 years. Paul loved his family dearly. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and other activities. Paul also enjoyed playing golf with his family and many friends. On Monday morning, September 16, 2013, Paul passed away at his home, having reached the age of 77 years, 11 months, 13 days. Blessed be his memory. Paul is survived by his Wife, Shirley Peterson, of Cosmos; four Children: Terry Storsved and her Husband Paul of Fargo, North Dakota, Nick Peterson of Cosmos, Minnesota, Kristin McMahan and her Husband Jeff of Richmond, Virginia, and Natalie Vander Beek and her Husband Kurt of Prinsburg, Minnesota; Grandchildren: Aaron (Kelsey), Bethany, and Hannah Storsved, Craig Spore, Luke, Micah, and Caleb Vander Beek; Jeff Jr. (Kim) and Michael (Tanja) McMahan, and Nicole (Dennis) Boismenue; Great-Grandchildren: Jackson, Kennedy, Chase, and Declan McMahan; Brother: George (Donna) Peterson of Huron, South Dakota; Sister: Diane (Mike) Sulawski of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; Other relatives and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his Parents, and Brother Kenneth and his wife Tess Peterson. Paul had a strong faith in Jesus Christ. He showed generous love towards his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Following the service, all family and friends are invited downstairs for a time of fellowship and a light lunch.
