Paul Richard Metcalf Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 3, 2025.
Paul Richard Metcalf, 54, of Baldwinsville, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Carthage, NY, he was a proud graduate of Carthage Central High School (1988) and Mercersburg Academy (1989). Paul completed his education at St. Lawrence University, Class of 1993, and was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. In 2002, he was united in marriage to the former Colleen L. O'Brien, a blessed union of 23 years. For the past 15 years, Paul worked as a Senior Benefits Advisor for the Alera Group, formerly Relph Benefit Advisors.

Paul was an unassuming, kind, and gentle soul. A true outdoorsman, he was an avid hunter who also enjoyed camping, fishing and boating on Brantingham Lake. Paul's true passion was golf, whether teaching the game he loved or playing with his friends, and especially his dad. He felt lucky that he was able to golf in Ireland last summer, "the best trip of his life".

Paul's first priority was his family. Known as "Mr. Tailgate" and head of the cheer squad, he proudly followed his daughters' lacrosse and soccer games.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Colleen L. Metcalf, his two daughters, Meghan and Taylor, his parents, Gerald and Elaine "Lonnie" Metcalf, all of Baldwinsville, NY, his grandmother, Katherine Kraushaar of Liverpool, NY, sister, Ellen (Mitchell) Ames of Moore, SC, brother, Mark (Traci) Metcalf of Wilsonville, OR, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and a wide group of close friends.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rt 31, Baldwinsville, NY 13027 with funeral services to follow at 3:00 pm.

Paul's family would like to thank the team at Upstate Hematology-Oncology; Dr. Seth, Dr. Mix, Taryn, Ashley, and Sherri for enabling Paul to live his past 15 months to the fullest.

Contributions can be made to Upstate Hematology-Oncology or Hospice of CNY.

People should emulate Paul in the ways he was always there for his family. He showed up. There might have been times when it would have been easier for him not to, but he was there. I will remember him as a kind sweet soul whose family meant everything to him. My heart goes out to those who will miss him the most.

I had the good fortune to coach Paul for numerous years on the CCS boys soccer team. He was a dynamic player, team captain, and league all star. His soccer skillset allowed him to play any position on the field. Paul´s team won the 1987 league and playoff championships. He was well composed and always set high goals for himself. He was the always the "first to try and help" and the "last to give up hope". I extend condolences to his immediate and extended family. Many (including me) are deeply saddened by Paul´s passing, but will always remember who he was and what he represented.
