Paul Rogers III Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2024.
It is with heavy, yet full hearts that we share the passing of Paul Rogers III. Paul succumbed to dementia (Corticobasal Degeneration) on March 20th, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Paul was fun-loving, witty, loyal, non-judgmental, and had a ferociously generous and caring spirit. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Andrea.

Paul was born on February 24, 1945, in Ft. Worth, Texas, to Paul Rogers Jr. and Jackie Belew Rogers. The family moved frequently in Paul's early years because of his father's job as a Drumstick Company salesman. They finally settled in Worthington, Ohio, where they quickly built a community of friends around them. The Rogers quickly became friends with Frank and Caryl Learned and their family. After many years of pursuing their youngest daughter Andrea, Paul finally convinced her to be his wife in 1970. Paul was a graduate of Worthington High School and later Texas A&M-Commerce.

Paul was a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War, which planted the seed for a life devoted to the cause of peace and reconciliation. As an alternative service to fighting in the war, he became the youth director for the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio.

Early in his professional life, Paul was a successful salesperson for US Surgical, selling medical equipment to hospitals. In 1980, shortly after moving to Cincinnati, he started and was CEO of US Medical, a company that brought some of the first surgical laser technology to this country. He remained a salesperson and educator throughout his life.

Paul served on the board at the Ensemble Theater in Cincinnati. He was also a servant to the Episcopal Church throughout his life and was a proud member of the Church of the Redeemer in Hyde Park.

Paul was also a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, something he proudly passed down to his children and grandchildren. He loved the Indianapolis 500, going to the movies, attending concerts and plays, and would take any and every opportunity to playfully startle/scare others.

Paul is survived by his wife Andrea, daughter Julia Joyce (Brad), favorite child Philip Rogers (Laura), grandchildren Charlie Rogers, Liam Joyce, Gus Joyce, Lincoln Rogers, and Wyatt Rogers, and sisters Pam Johnston (Bill) and Robin Criel (Bruce). Paul was predeceased by his father Paul Jr., mother Jackie, and step-father Robert Browning.

A celebration of Paul's life will take place April 6th at 11 am at the Church of the Redeemer in Hyde Park. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that you donate to the Giving Voice Foundation at givingvoicefdn.org/donate.

Andrea - We are so sorry to hear of Paul's passing. He was always such a joy in the group at Knox. We could tell he loved the music, and we loved that he loved it. His sense of humor made us laugh each week, and that is a true gift he gave us. Sending much support - Pam and Spencer

As teenagers, we got up to a great deal of harmless mischief together, and he introduced me to the great comedy genius, W.C. Fields. I remember most laughing with him until we were crying. Right after graduation, we bought bus tickets and endured a long journey to New York City, where we saw Richard Burton's Hamlet together. He was a deeply wise and funny man, who married his dream girl.

I first Paul and Andrea at the Sawyers house when I was young. I don't ever remember a time when Paul was around there wasn't an abundance of laughter. He will be missed but am sure he is now with Ruth and John and will be cheering on the Bengals from Heaven! Hugs, love, and prayers to his family!

Although I did not know Paul directly, I have been fortunate to know Andrea and Julia in whom I see so many of the traits you describe in him--his loving and generous ways and his sense of fun and humor. May you feel peace and grace through this very sad time of loss. With deepest sympathy,
