Paul Soane Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 25, 2015.
Paul Emile Soane of Denver succumbed to cancer Oct. 21, 2015 in the presence of his wife and family. Paul was born in London, England in Dec. 1934, the son of Arthur and Alice Soane. Survived by wife of 56 years, Gwendoline Mulcahy Soane; three sons, Mark (Sarah), Daniel (Michaela) and Carl (Zoe); brother Gerald; sister Marie; 11 grandchildren, Aowyn, Brendan, Anna, Atticus, Caitlin, Caroline, Damian, Abe, Lillian, Ainsley and Declan. Predeceased by brothers, the Reverend Brendan Soane and Lawrence Soane. Following grammar school, Paul apprenticed to become a Chartered Accountant. He immigrated to Montreal in 1957. His fiancée, Gwen, followed him and they were married in 1959. He came to the US to attend Harvard Business School where he earned his MBA and graduated as a Baker Scholar. He became a naturalized and fiercely proud American citizen. Upon graduation, he joined Mobil Oil where he would work for the next 36 years as a senior manager in New York, Indonesia, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Washington DC. He retired as Mobil's senior business development executive. After twelve years in Virginia, Paul and Gwen moved to Colorado to be nearer their grandchildren. They have been active members of Risen Christ Catholic Church, Cherry Creek Country Club and the Silverados choral group of which Paul was president. Paul prized family above all else. He was a voracious reader with a keen interest in history, philosophy, religion and poetry. He loved to sing and play the piano. He was friendly, thoughtful, loquacious, humorous, principled and generous. He will serve forever as an exemplar of husband, father, grandfather, sibling and friend. Funeral services will be held at Risen Christ Catholic Parish, 3060 S. Monaco Parkway, Denver at 1:30 PM on Friday, October 30th followed by an interment ceremony at Fairmount Cemetery.
