Columbus - Paul M. Spurgeon, 84, of Columbus passed away on March 25, 2025. He was born December 17, 1940, in Jackson County, the son of Frank and Irene Philips Spurgeon. He married Nancy Badskey on July 2, 1966. Both Paul and Nancy grew up on farms in Indiana and attended Taylor University. He received a master's degree from the University of Iowa and worked as an actuary throughout his career.

Paul was a man of strong faith. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where he loved to sing in the choir. He enjoyed carpentry, genealogy, piano and studying the Bible. For many years he was an active member of Toastmasters, participated in Boy Scout leadership roles and was a devoted deacon and elder at several of his previous churches. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by three children, John (Julia) Spurgeon, Dan (Shelley) Spurgeon, and Sharon Cediel; grandchildren, Xiang, David, Lara, Jordan, Alexis, Luke, Gabby, Manuel, Susan, and Joshua; great-grandchildren Calypso, Cleopatra, Galileo, Mikaella, and Catalina; brothers, David (Carol) and Mark (Diane) Spurgeon, and sister, Joyce Gill. He was preceded in passing by his wife Nancy, infant daughter Susan Spurgeon and sister, Sarah Spurgeon.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Friday April 4th at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Dr. Reverend Felipe Martinez officiating. Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 12:00pm to time of service.

Paul will be laid to rest at Hamilton Memorial Park Cemetery in Westfield, Indiana at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church Foundation.
