Paul Stewart Smith
July 4, 1935 - October 13, 2021
Beloved husband of Barbara Timbs Smith (nee Williams); dear father and father-in-law of Paul (Kay Hazel) Smith, Crawford (Caitlain) Timbs, Dorothy (Patrick) Timbs Yeung and Elizabeth (Alex) Timbs Sherling; loving grandfather of Dalton, Colton and Layne Timbs, Lucy, Cecilia, Josie, Max and Luke Yeung and Arlie, Amelia and Walker Sherling; dear brother of Clay Smith.
Stewart Stewart was born in Tompkinsville, Kentucky to Beulah and Luther Smith, the oldest of two children. He was known as the high school football star and got a football scholarship to the University of Kentucky under coach Bear Bryant. He aspired to be a professional athlete football player but God had other plans. Stewart contracted scarlet fever in his first year of college, and had to leave. He eventually found his way to earning a Bachelor's degree in History and a Masters degree in Divinity. He was ordained in a rural church in Kentucky. He was married to Barbara Williams Timbs Smith, and was a devoted husband.
He had a quiet strength, was a devout Christian and servant of God. Stewart's primary goal in his entire life was to serve God in any way that God led him to. He did this throughout his life as a hospital chaplain, as a chaplain in the prison system, and in the mental health system in South Carolina.
He was very passionate for life and for things he pursued in life. Of his many passions Stewart enjoyed traveling with his wife, enjoying football games, studying God's word, and spending time with his family which included 4 children, and 11 grandchildren. He loved to play the drums, which he started learning at age 81. He was very physical and you enjoyed a good strong hug when you got a hug from Stewart. His love will always remain in our hearts and he will never be forgotten.
