Paula Carr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 8 to Mar. 13, 2024.
It is with sadness that we share the passing of Paula Ricks Carr on March 5, 2024. Paula was born in Logan, Utah on August 20, 1952. She will be loved and missed by her daughter, Annie Carr Ingebritson (Jacob Ingebritson), her grandchildren, Otis, Edmond, Tobin and Myah Ingebritson, and her sisters, Linda Schmidt (Greg Schmidt) and Connie Jolley (Will Jolley), in addition to several nieces/nephews and their families. She is also survived by J.Z. Davis (Chrystal Davis) and his family, as well as her former husband, Larry Carr, who continued to be a good friend and support until her passing. Paula's parents, Duane and Nadine Ricks preceded her in death, as well as her longtime companion, Jim Davis.

Paula graduated from Weber State University with a BS in Political Science and worked for the State of Utah court system for 31 years. She retired in 2006 as the Clerk of the Court for the Second Judicial District. Paula then served as the first Court Administrator for the newly formed Ogden Justice Court for over a decade before retiring in 2018 for health reasons. Paula was appreciated by her peers and staff for her ability to manage complex situations with kindness, grace, and intelligence.

Throughout her life, she excelled in cooking fabulous meals to share with her family and friends. Paula enjoyed entertaining; her guests were always regaled with her witty and irreverent sense of humor along with delicious food and plenty of wine.

Paula had an intense interest in politics, current and past. She was an avid reader of political histories, and closely followed politics, both local and national. She was a member of a bookclub for several years and loved hearing the opinions of members and sharing her own take on books.

Paula loved to travel and spent time enjoying various cultures (and cuisines) throughout the world. She and her daughter, Annie, were fortunate enough to travel to the United Kingdom and Ireland months before her passing.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society. We also wish to thank the staff of Suncrest Hospice for the loving support they provided Paula; we are forever grateful that she was in their exceptional care.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 20, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Davis residence in Salt Lake City. Friends and family are welcome to come and honor this amazing woman who will forever be missed.

Paula added an elegance and humor to our book club. She was so easy to be with and a wonderful person who will be greatly missed. I will always remember her story of the basement issue.

A favorite memory is from 1975 after a softball game. We were in our backyard. Paula and Bill Daines had a contest to see who could spit the farthest.
Paula won.

Paula was self made. She earned everything she had or achieved. She was a constant reminder that the smartest person in the 2nd District wasn´t a judge.

Paula was an innovative and creative administrator. She created and led an effective warrant program in the Ogden City Justice Court resulting in a 50% reduction of the 5,000 plus outstanding warrants by showing those with an arrest warrant how they could resolve their situation and move on with their lives. Paula gave all the opportunity to better themselves and lead productive lives like two of the clerks who went onto become practicing attorneys and the retired who came back and added their experience to the administration of the court. Paula was a determined person who gave us a lot in life and in our careers. She will be missed for her wit and humo.

Paula was a wonderful supporter when I was a young lawyer trying to figure out how to navigate the male dominated court system in Ogden. I went out of my way to run into her around the courthouse - she always made me feel more confident. I have fun memories of dinners with Paula and Jim and endless laughter. My sympathies to Annie and JZ and your families. Paula was an amazing human.

I knew Paula through our book club and loved her as a fun-loving free spirit, sometimes hilariously irreverent, yes, but always kind and intelligent and a person you wanted to be around. I will miss her beyond belief.

Paula was my son´s mother-in-law. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She brought elegance and a sense of fun to every gathering. Our family adored her and are now heartbroken. Paula will be deeply missed by all of us.
