Pauline O'Brien Obituary
Of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Racine, WI, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2011, after a long illness.
She was born to the late Paul and Anna Nielsen on November 10, 1926 in Racine, WI. Polly enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, spending her summers at the pool where she lived, spending time with her many friends and family, and watching the Phillies, Eagles, Packers, and any NCAA basketball game she could find. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was rarely without an opinion she always shared. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
She is predeceased by her husband, James E. O'Brien; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Phyliss Nielsen; and nephew, Thomas Nielsen, formerly of Racine, WI. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen A. O'Brien of Wilmington, DE; son, James E. O'Brien of Milwaukee, WI; two granddaughters, Jennifer A. Kutney, and Meagan O. Kutney, and the newest love of her life, great grandson, Mekhi J. Currington of Wilmington, DE; one niece and two nephews of Racine, WI; and her many, many friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, May 1, from 3-5pm at the Park Plaza Condominium Community Room, 1100 Lovering Ave. in Wilmington, DE 19806.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Seamen's Center of Wilmington, P.O. Box 405, Wilmington, DE 19899, a charity in which she knit and donated scarves and hats for seamen coming into the Port of Wilmington.

Polly was a great lady that brought a smile to all she met. Her kind heart and quick fingers knitted hundreds of scarves and hats for the seafarers arriving in our State. Her generosity has been deeply appreciated by mariners from the world over, all of whom she never knew or met. Her friends at the Seamen's Center of Wilmington will long remember her. May she rest in peace.
