Pearly Roy Allen II

Colchester - Pearly Roy Allen, II passed away today, December 29, 2020, at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, Vermont at 92 years of age.

Pearly was born March 8, 1928, and was a true Vermonter made of independence, ingenuity, and self-reliance. He married Lucille Desautels of Shoreham, Vermont in 1954. He had wide range of talents as a proficient logger and farmhand in his early years, then becoming a hotel bellhop at the prestigious Middlebury Inn and Hotel Vermont where he met many of the celebrities of the 1940's and 1950's and during which time he became good at hospitality and salesmanship. Later, he raised a family and moved to the farm where he spent his summers with his grandparents as a boy. He renovated the house which was built in the early 1800's during which he learned and applied carpentry skills at an advanced level. He used hard woods in place of metal to repair and adapt horse drawn farm equipment to use with a tractor. At this time, he was also a grocery merchant and vegetable farmer. Once again, he excelled at both. Later, he raised grass fed animals to complement the vegetable farming including rabbits, chickens, geese, and beef cows.

As is the case of many Vermonters, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent many days snowmobiling and hunting with his favorite beagle, Mandy. He was also an accomplished horseman from his early years as a logger with a large Percheron draft horse, Mike, and later, his saddle horse, an Arabian-Palomino pinto, Silverson (Silver).

He went on an adventurous trip in his camper with his family to Alaska. The journey carried them through most of the provinces of Canada and the Yukon territory to Alaska via the 1200 miles of dirt road of the Alcan Highway in 1969.

Pearly and Lucille had three children Paula (Jay Longe), Perry (Debra), and Pearly III (Pamela). He passed along to them those Vermont traits of independence, ingenuity, and self-reliance. Pearly is pre-deceased by his father, Pearly Allen Sr., and mother, Lillian, as well as his siblings Roy, Roger, Donny, Ida, and Larry. He leaves his beloved wife of 66 years, siblings Herold and Barbara, and his children and two grandchildren, Laura Kinney and Harley Allen. All who knew him would agree he was resolute and direct, as many true Vermonters are. He liked what he liked and did not like what he did not like. Rest in peace Pearly R Allen II.

Arrangements are in care of Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant Street, Essex Jct., VT.
