Peggy Lynn Barringer (Friesen), age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 16, 2025, in
Victoria, TX.
Peggy was born July 7, 1940, in Russell, KS and was a 1958 graduate from Russell High School. She was the oldest of four children and preceded in death by her parents Carl Friesen (1907-1995) and Gladys Friesen (1917-2012), both of Russell, KS. She will be missed by her brother & sisters: Steve Friesen and wife Monika (Naples, FL); Connie Krug and husband Monte (Russell, KS), and Terri McKown and husband Ron (Valley Center, KS).
Peggy met her husband, Steve Barringer, by a fortune of fate due to his transfer to Russell, KS with Cities Service Oil & Gas Company. This began a remarkable journey together that spanned almost 68 years of marriage and experiences in many countries around the world. They married in Russell, KS in December 1958. Their love story was one of exploration and shared purpose, shaped by Steve's career as a petroleum engineer. In the first year of their marriage they lived in Russell, KS, and then oil field transfers moved them to Odessa, Columbus and Corpus Christi, TX before moving to Jakarta, Indonesia where they lived from 1969 until 1979. Steve & Peggy returned to the United States the spring of 1979 and established their permanent homestead in
Victoria, TX. From 1979-1983 Steve continued to work for Cities Services as an overseas roving drilling manager. Peggy was fortunate to join him for visits during those years. In 1983 Steve retired from Cities Service and consulted from 1985-1991. These assignments took them to Perth, Australia (1985-1987) and then to Calgary, Canada (1989-1991) where Peggy lived with him full-time.
Steve retired from engineering and began his second career as a Charter Fishing Captain. They built their second home for fishing and relaxation in Port O'Connor, TX in 1992. It was there that Peggy established a thriving bed and breakfast catering to the fishermen & women who chartered Capt. Steve as their fishing guide. Peggy delighted their guests with the comforts of home and her great cooking, warmth, charm, and hospitable disposition that made everyone leave (then return time & again) feeling like family members.
Her love for nature was evident in the way she nurtured beauty around her. Peggy tended a vibrant rose garden until health challenges made it too difficult. Even then, she found joy in watching hummingbirds and purple martins at the feeders outside their Port O'Connor home-small moments that reflected her appreciation for life's beauty and wonders.
Raised Methodist and steadfast in her Christian faith, Peggy embodied compassion without ever calling attention to herself. Despite living with congestive heart failure in later years, she never burdened others with her suffering. Instead, she remained positive-always smiling-and continued to uplift those around her with quiet strength and good humor.
Peggy lived a life marked by grace, resilience, adventure and a deep love for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by her husband Steve Barringer of
Victoria, TX; daughters Kim Hamilton and husband James (Bradenton, FL); Kelly Buckler and husband William (Granbury/Graham/Ft. Worth, TX); and son Kirk Barringer and wife Tammy (
Victoria, TX). Her legacy will continue through her 9 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren: Brandee Rimer and son Wyatt Smith (Wichita, KS); Brent Rimer and wife Erica (Parrish, FL) & their children Karlee, Wesley, and Huxley; Bradley Hamilton (Jacksonville Beach, FL); Brice Hamilton (San Diego, CA); Steven Buckler and wife Erica & son Stetson (Dallas, TX); Davis Buckler and wife Aubrey (Midland, TX); Kyle Barringer (
Victoria, TX); Melissa Hinton and husband Truman (Bandera, TX); and Rachel Barringer (San Antonio, TX).
Peggy will be remembered as sweet-natured, caring beyond measure, and dearly loved by all who had the privilege to know her. Her memory will live on through the lives she touched so deeply and the legacy of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her final 24 hours were spent at Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion. We are indebted to the nursing angels Melissa & Melinda who assisted her peaceful transition to God's Kingdom in Heaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family would deeply appreciate donations made in memory of Peggy to Hospice of South Texas at
