Peggy LAUGHTER Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 19 to Apr. 20, 2015.
LAUGHTER (Reynolds), Peggy
Peggy Reynolds Laughter passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 15th, 2015, in Delray Beach, FL, where she resided for her last forty years. Born in New York City on September 23rd, 1926, to Thirza and Edwin Reynolds, she grew up on her grandparents' estate, Normandy Farms in Dayton, Ohio. Her grandfather Richard Grant, was instrumental in General Motors' success in its early years and her grandmother, Laura was like Peggy's second mother. She lived in many locales with Rancho Santa Fe, CA, in the 1960's being her favorite before permanently settling in Delray Beach in 1975. She embraced a wide variety of interests in being a world traveler, accomplished equestrian, enthusiastic tennis player, avid photographer, and curator of a "jungle full" of (300!) orchids. First and foremost, Peggy was the family Matriarch always making herself available and supportive to all. We will miss the annual Easter gatherings. Her competitive juices were evident at the bridge and bingo tables where she played with many friends. As a true sports person, her favorite athletes include Derek Jeter, Phil Mickelson, Rafael Nadal and Dwayne Wade. In her 50's and 60's, she had a running competition with her brother Eddie on whom could finish the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle first. Peggy was also involved in cultural events in Delray Beach including the Playhouse in the 1950's and supporting Old School Square since the 1990's as well as being a volunteer. She is predeceased by her late husband, Jack Laughter, who was her tenacious health care advocate. He also shined as the organizer of their social calendar and cruise director . They frequently had meals and participated in activities at the Gulf Stream Bath and Tennis Club. For seventy years, her family thoroughly enjoyed the friendship of the club's members and staff. All those who knew Peggy will miss her sweet and gentle disposition. Peggy's children are Nicholas DuPre of Pasadena, CA; Laura DuPre of Fallbrook, CA; Linn Carpenter Ingraham and her husband William of Greenwich, CT; and Ralph "Duke" Dalton of Boca Raton, FL. Her grandchildren are Rick, Guillermo, Lindsay (her favorite granddaughter, as Peggy would slyly state !) Billy, Mickey and Kevin. Her great grandchildren are Grant, Declan, Henry, Kyla, Carter and Skye. Peggy is survived by her dear brother, Edwin Reynolds of Vero Beach, FL and his wife, Celia and his sons Edward, Grant and Robert. The family would like to thank profusely the personnel at Boca Raton Regional Hospital and for her most recent visit, the ICU's at Delray Medical Center. Her doctors, especially Dr. Stephen Babic, put forth an outstanding effort by showing great skill and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, Peggy and her family would like the readers to perform random acts of kindness in memory of the ideals of charity and courtesy Peggy embodied. A service for Peggy will be announced.
