Peggy Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 14, 2016.
Peggy Miller, age 72 passed away on Thursday, February 11 after a brief illness with her family at her side. Peggy was born on November 2, 1943 in Bastrop, Texas to Joe Sephus Smith and Mary McClintock Smith. Her dad worked in the oil fields so they moved frequently. In her teenage years they settled in Brenham and after high school she married David Kramer in 1961. They had two daughters, Deborah Lynn in 1962 and Sherry Oneil in 1965. In 1978 they were divorced and Peggy moved to Laporte, Texas to be near family. Luckily, she and Dave Miller soon met and after a whirlwind courtship were married on August 14, 1979. The rest is history. Friends dubbed them The Dave & Peggy Traveling Good-Time Show due to all the travel and love of music and partying. Now after 37 years of love, life & the pursuit of happiness (In Huge Quantities), over 1,470,000 miles on the road to all 48 lower states, hearing over 1000 bands, drinking and dancing our way across the country and always having a great time, as many of you witnessed. Thanks to all our family and hundreds of good friends for all the LOVE! When Peggy and Dave met he was a Lieutenant on the Baytown Fire Dept. but when he was offered the job of Assistant Fire Chief in Conroe, they moved in 1981 and have lived here since. Peggy worked for 23 years as a server at El Pollino Mexican restaurant in Conroe and made hundreds of friends there. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mary Smith, brothers Aubrey "Sonny" Smith and Jimmy Joe Smith, sisters Opal Smith, Bonnie Barth, Mary Jonell Odom and Thelma Williams, granddaughter Kristen Nicole Kramer, Father-In-Law Harold Miller and Mother-In-Law Margaret Miller as well as several nieces and nephews. She is survived by husband Dave Miller, former husband David Kramer, daughters Deborah Lynn Rutledge and Sherry Wright, step-daughter Kellye Tikannen and husband Tim and son Travis, step-son Randy Miller and his son Camden Miller, granddaughters Tara Hoebing and Susan Rutledge, grandson Joe Hoebing, great-grandson Adam Hoebing and great-granddaughter Rheann Elise Durbin, Brother-In-Law Patrick Miller and wife Debbie and son Ryan, Sister-In-Law Maureen Goggans and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 2 PM at the Metcalf Funeral Home at 1801 E. White Oak Terrace off of Hwy. 105 just west of Loop 336 in Conroe. Please dress casual, that was her wish.

I'm very sorry for your loss Chief Miller. It really a loss to all that knew her. Peg is a very kind person. It was obvious to all that she was your partner in life or (crime) as it were. Both of you are a bright shining star, that is now a even brighter star in heaven overlooking you and the rest of your family. I remember meeting her the first time when working on your home repairing the front door. She was very kind and helpful. Over the years I appreciated her kindness when we met around the fire station. I was always happy to see her in her support of you and your work at the station. As well as her patience with your patch hobby. I realize that nothing I can say will bring her back except our fond memories of her. She will always be in my fondest of my memories.
Please take care.
May God Bless you and your Family
Ray Murphy
P.S. I look forward to seeing you in the near future.

I'm so sorry to hear of Peggy's passing. Peggy was a key thread in the tapestry that is Conroe, Texas. Dave's long service to the city with Peggy by his side are just part the life and times of the City. A wonderful person with a great sense of humor and compassion for all those around her will make her sorely missed. My most heartfelt condolences to Dave and the rest of Peggy's family.

Dave and family,

Who could ever forget what an awesome couple the two of you have been? The one couple that I have always most admired. Peggy always knew what you liked when ordering at El Pollino's (Conroe's long ago best Mexican restaurant). She was the best server EVER. No one can hold a candle to her. You have such an abundance of precious memories and a life truly well lived. She will be waiting for you in heaven to continue the dancing.

RIP, sweet Peggy! You will be missed greatly. You were my step-mother, but I considered you to be my "2nd mom". There were so many great things about you that I will always remember....like your beautiful laugh, your hippie tie-dye clothes, your wonderful smile, your great dancing, your love of Betty Boop, and mainly your love of my dad! May God comfort and console your family!
