Peggy Waters Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 8, 2012.
WATERS Peggy O'Neal Waters died on December 27. She was 89 years old. Peggy, daughter of Clyde and Hazel O'Neal, was born in Pueblo, Colorado on October 6, 1922. She grew up in Colorado and attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. While working for the United Nations in San Francisco she met, had a whirlwind romance, and married Lt. John Waters who was in the Coast Guard. They lived in many interesting places including Bermuda, Miami, Boston, San Diego and retired in Jacksonville, Florida. She lived there many years where she pursued painting as an artist and was a docent at the Cummer Art Gallery for 30 years. She traveled extensively including trips to Europe, Russia, China, Thailand, and Egypt. Peggy moved to Oak Hammock in Gainesville when it opened in 2004 and had an active life there attending classes, participating in choir, many other activities and making new friends. She had a zest for life and was quick to laugh. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Waters (Kerry Buckey); son, Dr. Steve Waters (Shelley); grandchildren, Kelly, Art (Tina), Stephanie and Brandy and one great grandchild, Aubrey. Private Services will be in Pueblo, CO at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 N. Main Street Gainesville, FL 32601.
