Amelia Krawick Obituary

Published by Victoria Times-Colonist on Jun. 2, 2012.
KRAWICK, Amelia (née Bereziuk) June 10, 1915 - May 31, 2012 Born in Sundown MB to Ukrainian /Polish immigrant parents Peter Bereziuk and Anna Tarnopolski, died of a ruptured aortic aneurysm at Royal Jubilee Hospital. Following her early years in Sundown and Caliento MB, she lived for 15 yrs in Rivers MB, 20 yrs in Brantford ON and since 1979 in Victoria BC. Predeceased by her parents, five siblings Angela, Jennie, John, Joseph and Anthony, infant son Lawrence Joseph (1937), husbands William Kushniryk (1940), Jacob Hain (1956), William Krawick (1968), partner Gerry Jordan (1997) and step-daughter Pearl Laspa (1998). Survived by son Emil Hain (Lynne) Victoria BC, grandson Lawrence Hain Winnipeg MB, step-daughter Violet Wetherall, sisters-in-law Mary Bereziuk and Nita Bereziuk and numerous nieces and nephews. Facing numerous challenges; hardscrabble existence during the "dirty thirties" on sub-marginal land, two years in a TB sanatorium, loss of an infant son and the early demise of three husbands, she nevertheless lived a rich and full life with remarkable inner strength and fortitude. Never idle, Amelia was skilled in sewing, needlework, handicrafts, cake decorating and a fabulous cook. But her real passion was gardening which she enjoyed into her 95th year. She trained as an Industrial First Aid nurse during her Brantford years and worked at various factories and for St. John's Ambulance. Following a leg amputation in 2010 Amelia adapted quickly to wheelchair life at the Cridge Seniors Centre. There she made many new friends, played a mean game of cribbage and scrabble and thoroughly enjoyed being spoiled by the wonderful Cridge staff. Our sincere thanks to Cridge residents and staff for making Amelia's last two years among the happiest in her life. Amelia's ashes will be buried at the St. John's Ukrainian Catholic churchyard in Caliento, MB. No service by request. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Bereziuk-Kushniryk Archival Endowment Fund at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB R3T 2N2

Emil and Lynne, I loved your Mom and had a long and valuable friendship with her. She was an absolutely outstanding person with so many accomplishments and so many good qualities that i could not list them all here. I already miss her and know that I always will. There will be a big space in my life where she used to be.

with Love,

Jennifer Bereziuk

Emil & Lynne, I was saddened to hear of Amelia's passing. I am so pleased that Dwayne and I had the pleasure of a lovely visit with her just a few weeks ago, and that I finally had the chance to meet this wonderful woman who enjoyed life so much. I'm certain she will be missed by many.

Emil & Lynne,
Nobody embraced life and love and family and friends with more grace and kindness and optimism than your dear Mother. Beyond the clouds there are a thousand rainbows. One of them is surely shining with her radiance now. I wish you comfort and peace in your hearts.

Emil & Lynne I have many great memories of your Mom going back to the 40s in Rivers. I visited her in Brantford and many times in Victoria. I'm in her famous home 'guest book'. She was really a remarkable person.
