I have know Betty and John Lamble for many years and worked with John at D.W. Thomson & Company and DW Thomson Consultants from 1968 to 1998 and always enjoyed their company at the office Christmas parties. Sympathy is extended to her family. Pat Haywood

I'll always remember Betty fondly as a strong woman, unafraid to voice her opinions. The neighbour's cat kept pooping in the Lamble's garden. Betty had me in stitches when she described the confrontation. I offered a bucket of topsoil for the cat. Oh, no thanks, we use kitty litter. Replied Betty with her best British accent, and looking down frostily, It prrreferrrs topp soil!
Betty was generous, giving us novice gardeners pachysandra plants we could not afford at that time. I had admired her ground cover, so when she was thinning hers she took the time to save any bits that had some root. What a lovely neighbour.
But the best gift from Betty was wise advice: if a letter of complaint is worth writing, it is worth signing. An anonymous letter is worth nothing. So I signed the letter I wrote to the owners of the pathetic, bored, lonesome, chained dog that cried (I timed him) every 5 seconds. I felt very brave and empowered for having done soand my complaint got results. Thanks, Betty. I'm stronger because of you. We'll miss you.
