Peter Bryner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 3, 2015.
Jun. 26, 1990 ~ Feb. 22, 2015
We lost someone special last weekend. And when I say we all, I mean all, as in the world. A son, a brother, a cousin, a nephew. A friend, a co-worker, a partner in adventure (or crime). A collaborator. A jokester. A source of genuine compassion, intelligence, talent, and laughter. Someone with the drive and ability to change the world for the better. An innovator. A dreamer.
Peter William Clifford Bryner spent his last moments in the natural world he loved at Mt. Hood, on February 22, 2015. Peter was born on June 26, 1990, and spent 24 years creating, exploring and gifting us his light.
From Legos to bikes, scotch tape to duct tape, doodling to design, Peter turned his childhood talents into a career and a way of life.
His peace came from rock climbing, bicycling and camping, all of which he documented through super artsy, double-exposed photographs. Peter was always pushing himself to be better. He had many facets, including the solitary facet, the pensive facet, and the not-so-popular butthead facet.
His enthusiasm, humor, and charm were magnetic. Pete could always be trusted to approach life's challenges with grace and a light heart. He was always planning the next adventure, and his fashion sense was the envy of many.
Peter's refreshing irreverence was depicted in his witticisms and artwork. He took on subjects ranging from Bob Ross to Stalin, the Pope to Phil Collins, Ninja Turtles to Chuck Norris.
He approached every situation with humor, levity, and genuine compassion. A quality his friends appreciated. We can take Peter's legacy to heart.
We can accept our duty to bring to the world the same light and energy that Peter brought to us. We can share with everyone we encounter the love, humor and compassion he shared with us.
Peter is survived by his mom Michaelann McChyrstal, (who proudly passed on her hair cowlicks gene) his dad, Douglas Bryner and his beautiful older sister Karly. Peter had two bonus parents to love him, David Pack and Susan Bryner. He is also survived by his electric pink rain pants, and seventy times seven heavy hearts of friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you buy Peter a 12- pack of PBR next time you see him. An ideal place to send donations in Peter's name is: Center for Appropriate Transporting www.catoregon.org
We lost someone special. Please join us in celebrating his light and fill your hearts with joy. A celebration was held in Portland, OR. where Peter lived. Part 2 of the celebration will be held in Salt Lake City, Saturday, March 7th, from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Squatters Pub Brewery, 147 West 300 South, loft room.

Interesting that this legacy memory just showed up in my emails today. I've thought of Peter all through the weekend. Such a nice kind young man. Still think of him all the time and am grateful that I got to share a small part of him. Hugs to all Pete's family. Love you all.

I only got to see Peter on special occasions, but I knew him since he was a little boy, as I was a friend of his parents, Doug and Mickey. He was always very polite and kind. He always seemed a little shy which added to his charm when he became a young man. Peter's death came as a shock to everyone, as he was a very special young man, but he will always be in our thoughts.

Hi Pete!
Thinking about you and missing you tons. Andrew and I sent out wedding invites and I started writing your name down! I know you'll be there in spirit. You were the last person we saw as we left Portland, and in Salt Lake, no less. We have you to thank for the course our life is on. I wish I could have told you that. I pulled the red kettle out this week (the one you totally didn't have to buy to replace the one that broke) but you DID because you were a wonderful roommate. I think back on all the little things (your pile of shoes by the front door, getting stuck in that freak snowstorm and having to walk home in cowboy boots because you had zero gas in your car, camping and you scaring the crap out of the US Forest Service people coming to take that scary couch away, the Wundergus franchise, PURPLE BIKE) and I just miss you so damn much. I hope you're still making everyone laugh and are zipping around in your roller skates. Love you buddy. Xo

Dear Mickey, Doug, Karly, David and Susan,
I believe there is no greater pain than the loss of one so dear to your hearts and the only way to continue on is to be grateful that you did have him in your lives to love and be inspired and amazed by...that you had the great fortune to have had this jewel in your family...even if the time was way to short and you wanted to be with him much, much longer. I hope you can take refuge in your sweet memories of him and find some peace in knowing you loved him well and he in turn loved you well. I'm wishing you peace and hope. Always, Linda Doron

What a beautiful obituary!! I had the pleasure to share a flight from SL to Portland w/ Peter when I was traveling to Eugene to visit my daughter. Turned out Peter knew said daughter well. He was so fun to talk to. Incredibly bright and funny and interesting. I was happy to meet him then and pleased when my daughter said Peter was going to become her room mate in Eugene. Every time I saw him, he lit up the room and lifted the spirits of any one he was around. I've sadly watched how this loss has affected my daughter who loved Peter so much. It has cut her to her core. I know Peter was one of those rare people who, if you're lucky, come in to your life and can't help but leave an indelible mark on your soul. I was privileged to meet him briefly. Wishing Peters family peace and light at this difficult time. Much love, Carol Knight (mom to Abbey Knight)

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Peter. As stated, he was a delight to know. I am very sorry that I cannot celebrate his life with you, as I will be drinking beer in Milwaukee. Know that I will be drinking something a little better than PBR, and will do it in Peter's honor. With my Deepest Sympathy. Sherrie Knuth
