Peter A. Chipouras

CHIPOURAS, PETER A.
Chelmsford : Peter was born in Lynn on March 31,1925, and died on February 3, 2015 at age 89. The son of Bessie and Arthur Chipouras, Peter grew up with his 5 siblings: Ethel, Beatrice, Eleanor, Strati and Tina. Peter met Angie (Salmas), they married in 1950, and had over 64 years together. They raised a family in Wakefield for 30 years. Peter served in WWII in the Pacific in the engine room of the SS Bull, where his passion for mechanical engineering developed. He graduated from MIT(BS)and Columbia(MBA), before pursuing a career at General Electric designing aircraft engines. Peter was significant in the Lynn Riverworks plant's survival, and shaped aircraft engine design with the F404 engine, which became the standard for Navy fighter planes in the 80/90's. He was inducted into the Aircraft Engine Hall of Fame.
Peter is survived by his wife Angie, as well as his daughter Elaine Grosso and her husband Claude, and their children Damon and Sharon; and his son Arthur and his wife Tina, and their children Andrew and his wife Molly and their son Nathan, and Brian; and three sisters Ethel Poulos, Eleanor Voss, and Tina Dzedulonis.
Peter and Angie shared a passion for family and golf. Their lives were rich with many wonderful friends and experiences as they lived their retirement in summertime year round between Florida and Mass.

A funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 9AM from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street, Lynn, followed by a Funeral Service in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Lynn at 10AM.
Burial will be in the Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne.
Visiting hours Tuesday 4-7 PM.
