Peter Harwood Curry, Jr.

Nashville, TN

Peter Harwood Curry, Jr. 37, departed peacefully in the company of his family and friends on October 7, 2016. He was born June 3rd, 1979 in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in 1998. A graduate of Davidson College, he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, and majored in his life's passion-philosophy. Following his graduation from Davidson College, he taught English in Qingdao, China and then returned home to Nashville to begin a small business career.

A unique individual in every sense of the word, he had an endless wealth of humor, intellectual curiosity, imagination, and generosity. He embraced all the opportunities that life afforded to him. He fought cancer for seven years with all his heart and spirit, giving his family and friends more time than anyone thought possible. Through it all, he never lost his sense of optimism or his wit. His concern at all times was the well-being and comfort of others, especially those he loved the most.

He is survived by his husband of five years Zachary Adams Mayo (Zac); parents, Patsy and Peter Curry; sister, Page and brother-in-law Kipp Kranbuhl; parents-in-law, Lisa and Mark Mayo; sisters-in-law, Carmen Smith (Drew) and Rachel Ellen (Hunter); and many nieces, nephews and godchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Emily Chan and the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support the Peter Harwood Curry Jr. Colon Cancer Research Fund at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Checks can be made out to the University of Illinois Foundation, add "Curry" in memo line, and send to: University of Illinois College of Medicine, 1747 W. Roosevelt Road, Suite 302, Chicago IL, 60608. Attn. Stephanie Carani.

Visitation with the family will be held 4:00-6:00 PM Friday October 14, 2016 at St. George's Episcopal Church, 4715 Harding Pike Nashville, Tennessee, 37205. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 15, 2016 at St. George's Episcopal Church.

I remember Harwood (Peter) from MBA. I am happy to see that the kind, generous, curious, and independent teenager that I knew became an outstanding Gentleman, Scholar, and Role Model. Harwood welcomed my transfer to TN with open arms, trips to Monteagle, southern rock, and the infamous 'Curry Pizza Pie'.
I will miss Harwood. I see how many will miss him and who will always appreciate their memories of him.
My heart goes out to all of Harwood's loved ones during this difficult time.

I am very sorry to hear of Harwood's passing. I did not know that he was sick. I fondly remember having him in the MBA Jazz Band in it's early days. We certainly had some great times.

Jovial, sincere and hilarious, Peter was a warm and wonderful friend I won't forget. I don't ever remember him being anything other than his buoyant, good-humored self. He was always eager for a stimulating chat - Peter knew a lot about a lot. His sense of humor was uniquely his, and it radiated his sunny disposition. I will miss him.

Peter was a good friend and example of how to be. If you feel bad you still smile and you still go. He got bad and better and bad again but he was consistently a joyful, and positive person. Respect.

We are heartbroken over the loss of Peter. He was a good friend, and so full of life in the face of a terrible disease.

Peter introduced me to the wonderful city of New Orleans, and I'll never forget our adventures eating and drinking our way through the city. We didn't know each other at Davidson, but after meeting through friends in Nashville, what a pleasant surprise it was to find out we were both Wildcats. I'll always admire Peter's resiliency, his humor, and his infectious spirit. We will miss him fiercely.
