CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. — Peter Mason Ferrell Jr., 84, of Chappaqua, died peacefully in Chatham, on Sept. 28, 2008.

He leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Gaughan Ferrell, their six children and 13 grandchildren.

Born at home on the family farm in Chapmansville, W.Va., on March 15, 1924, he was the son of the late Peter Mason Ferrell and Margaret Griffen Ferrell. At the time, Peter and his identical twin brother, James, were the smallest, born-at-home twins to survive in the state of West Virginia. Together they weighed exactly five pounds.

Peter graduated from Chapmansville High School, and served his country in the Navy. He attended Tufts University in Medford, Mass., receiving his degree in engineering. He spent his career as a gas and nuclear turbine engineer for the General Electric Co., a job which took him to many continents to build power plants.

In his retirement, Pete enjoyed playing golf and taking his grandchildren on boat rides. He was close to his children and proud of their achievements.

In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by his children, Peter Ferrell III, Esq. (Christine and their children, Peter IV and Jacqueline) of Chappaqua, Michael William Ferrell, Esq. (Wendy and their children, Emily, Timothy, Benjamin and Charles) of Fairfax Station, Va., Judge Judith Ferrell O'Shea (Kevin and their children, Molly, Margaret and Tara) of Elmira, Jane Ferrell, Ph.D. (and her children, Eric and Katie) of Andover, Mass., Margaret Ferrell, M.D. (Douglas Tillotson and their children, George and Elizabeth) of Milton, Mass., and Barbara Ferrell of Camp Hill, Pa. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph Ferrell (Beverly) of Gormania, W.Va., and Michael Ferrell (Frankie) of Titusville, Fla.; and sisters, Regina Demming (James) of Ormand Beach, Fla., Margaret Shortridge of Bedford, Ohio, and Mary Catherine Rathburn (Don) of Winchester, Va.

A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph's Church, 1360 Highland Ave., Needham, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Services of Cape Cod, 712 Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601; 508-775-5656.
