Peter O'Neil Gainey passed away on February 19, 2023 in Starke, Fl. He joins the love of his life his wife Nancy Long who passed in 2011. Pete was born in Supply North Carolina on January 2, 1937 to the late Rhoda and Johnnie Gainey.
Pete is survived by his daughter Shelly Bowen (Tom), step-son Ronnie Long (Cissy), step daughter-in-law Christine Long, step grandchildren Eric Long and Ally Wilson (Matt), step great grandchild Ainsley, honorary son Tim Feith (Traci) and honorary granddaughter Zoi Feith. Pete also, leaves behind many loving family and friends.
Pete was a retired Assistant Chief Engineer from the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Prior to his career with the Corps Pete served in the United States Army (Korea) and received an award for Soldier of the Month.
Pete has always had a servant’s heart, was a dedicated member of the Shriners, faithfully donated to St Jude Children's Hospital and a member of the Ocean View Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church. Pete will always be remembered for jovial spirit, his work ethics, his generosity and his kind heart. Besides loving his family and friends Pete also loved the ocean and hunting.
Interment will be private at Sea Lawn Memorial Park where Pete will be near his late son David Gainey. Pete was loved deeply, and will be tremendously missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

I will always remember you my dear friend . We had so much fun riding our scooters. HDV. I will remember you also as a dear friend. I would call you or you would call me. We would always talk about our dear Lord. We would do a 3 way conversation and most of the time we would get a blessing from the most Heavenly Father. We love you our dear friend.

I will surely miss Pete especially at hunting season because he would come visit us every year of course he would always bring goodies and was so kind and friendly
