Peter Leland "Lee" Girard

Peter Leland 'Lee' Girard, 85 of Cloquet died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 in St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. He was born Sept. 16, 1918 in Stepik, Montana the son of Peter and Caroline 'Mayme' (Villiard) Girard. He moved to Cloquet at an early age and has been a resident since. Peter was united in marriage to Dorothy Emms on June 18, 1941 in Cloquet. He was employed at Potlatch for 41 years as a millwright. Peter was an Army Veteran serving during WWII. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and a Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, the Potlatch Quarter Century Club and was a life member of the Cloquet VFW. Peter loved music and dancing, fishing, camping, golfing, working on small engines, and spending time with his wife and family and his little dog, Nikki. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be missed by all. Peter was preceded in death by his son, Leland; grandson, Jason; and three brothers, Kenneth, James, and Albert Girard. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Susan Chase of California and Diane (Jesse) Chappell of North Carolina; sister, Annabelle Moen of Cloquet; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. VISITATION:Noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Military Honors will be accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. Entombment will be in Sunrise Memorial Park in Hermantown. A time of fellowship and lunch will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home.
