Peter Johann Hobi Obituary

Peter Johann Hobi, beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on January 10, 2023, at the age of 60 in Houston, Texas. Peter was born on February 10, 1962, in Uzwil, St. Gallen, Switzerland to Trudi Ida Hobi and Paul Hobi, both of whom preceded him in death.

Peter is survived by his siblings: Paul Hobi (wife Ursula), Andreas Hobi (wife Rebeka), Franciska Meienhofer (husband Lorenz), Martina Hobi, Monika Gantenbein (husband Kurk), and long-time friend Rene Muller. He also leaves behind his loyal dog, Monti.

After completing his education in 1978, Peter began his apprenticeship in Frauenfeld, Switzerland, and worked as a baker in Switzerland from 1981 to 1983. On July 8, 1983, one day after his sister Monika's wedding, he flew to Houston, Texas, and began working at The Petroleum Club of Houston. Here, he met Herman, his future business partner, and long-time friend who preceded him in death, as well as Andi Hubacher, also from Switzerland, who remained a friend to this day.

Peter was an accomplished pastry chef and the owner of Alphorn Bakery. He also founded Hobi's Bites, a spiced cracker company. He was a long-time supporter of Noah's House, a community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He employed many of the Noah's House residents for over 20 years .

Peter was an individual with a zest for life and a love of adventure. He was passionate about sports, tennis, Corvettes, cooking, and traveling. He was also known to be a cigar aficionado, and he enjoyed nothing more than relaxing with a good cigar and a glass of wine.

Despite his many accomplishments and interests, it was Peter's warm and infectious personality that endeared him to so many people. He had a kind heart and a generous spirit, always ready with a smile and a kind word for everyone he met. He was a loyal friend and a devoted family member, and his passing has left a hole in the lives of all who knew him.

A funeral service for Peter will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, located at 11720 Joan of Arc Drive, Houston, Texas 77024, on February 24, 2023, at 10:30 AM. A reception will follow at the community center on site. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Noah's House in Peter's memory.

Peter, we will miss you dearly, but your kind spirit will live on in the many people whose lives you touched.
