Peter Murley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2022.
Peter Murley of North Andover, MA, passed away surrounded by his family on August 12, 2022, following a brief struggle with cancer.

Pete was born in Winthrop, MA, to Ralph and Gail Murley. He grew up alongside his older brother, Dave, whom he affectionately tormented throughout their childhood.

Pete earned his undergraduate degree at Monmouth College in Illinois, where he was president of Theta Chi fraternity. He enjoyed playing guitar with his band and cooking regularly for his fraternity brothers.

He met his loving wife, Sue, at Monmouth and won her over with his beautiful singing voice, good looks, outstanding sense of humor, and charming humility. He built a career as a sales professional by forging sincere relationships with everyone he met. After retiring from sales, he formed a successful business with Sue and their son.

When they married in 1971, Pete and Sue settled in North Andover where they raised their family. In addition to his wife, Susan (Holland) Murley, Pete is missed by his children, Matt and Jessica Murley of Chapel Hill, NC, Karen and Brett Fuhrman of Asheville, NC, and Elizabeth Eure of Charlottesville, VA. He will be missed by his grandchildren Hannah, Coleson, Will, Luke, Kate, Andrew, and Ben; his brother, Dave Murley, and his wife Eileen and daughter Erin. Pete was loved by many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.

Pete would want to be remembered for his quick and clever (and sometimes inappropriate) wit, his pleasure in friendly banter, his love for cooking, his devotion to family, and his insistence on never taking himself too seriously.

All are welcome to a celebration of Pete's life at 12:00pm on Saturday, August 27th, at Tavern on High in North Andover.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Pete's favorite charity, the Salvation Army.

As I remember those early Sunday mornings rain or shine we´d meet at our fence for a cup of coffee & a smoke discussing all the world´s problems & a little bit of neighborhood chat. Boy do I miss those days ! Great Family & Great memories old friend.

Peter was a high school classmate. I remember him as quiet, respectful, handsome and a good baseball player. I´m glad to hear he had a nice life and a loving family.

I have so many fond memories of Uncle Pete. The knife skills cooking class he gave Tim and I when we got engaged, his version of trivial pursuit when he wowed us with his amazing amount of knowledge (he had memorized the answers on the card lol), the best Bloody Mary´s and brussell sprouts on Thanksgiving, swimming in the river at Balloon Rally, his great sense of humor, and a lot of great conversations about all things cooking, grilling, eating, and drinking. He will be greatly missed!
