Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Feb. 1 to Feb. 2, 2017.
PETER FRANZ NEUSTAEDTER
1921 - 2017
Peter Franz Neustaedter, born November 17, 1921, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2017 at the Royal University Hospital at the age of 95. He is lovingly survived by his sister Anna (Boldt) and brother John; his children Helga (Michael) Zbeetneff, Annette (Ron Schriml) Neustaedter, Peter (Lori) Neustaedter; two grandchildren, Peter Phillip (Kaleigh) Neustaedter, Sara (Theran) Neustaedter-Bloudoff, great-grandchild AnnaRose; and his best and closest friend, Irmgard Litwin. Predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Anna, and his siblings Maria (Reichert) and Helene (Link). Born in Liebental, southern Russia, he returned to his family's country of origin, Germany, where he worked as electrician for the Bundesbahn / National Railroad. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Anna (Bamberger). In 1948 they immigrated to Canada to make a new life, first settling in Hepburn, SK, then later to Saskatoon, where Peter started his own electrical contracting company. He was one of the first electricians to bring power to the rural areas of Saskatoon. Eventually he became employed with the CPR as their provincial road electrician, headquartered in Regina. He truly loved his work and enjoyed travelling the province from end to end. The family resettled to Kronau and later Balgonie. Peter and Anna loved northern Saskatchewan, and took their family on many camping and fishing trips to northern lakes. In the early 70's they built a cabin on an island on Nemeiben Lake. They both enjoyed gardening and preserving their harvest. In later years Peter kept bees, a hobby that he took great pride in. All his life he was an avid hunter, enjoying jaunts with his son-in-law Michael. He was extremely proud that his granddaughter Sara also became a hunter. After Anna passed away, Peter moved back to Saskatoon, living in the house that he had originally built. He lived there independently to the age of 93, when he finally decided to 'live the good life', and moved into a condo on Pinehouse Drive, where he resided until his passing. Resulting from a trip to Germany, he made contact with a friend of a friend, Irmgard Litwin, with whom he formed a close and special friendship. They shared many interests and special times together. In lieu of floral tributes, we ask you make a donation to the charity of your choice. Funeral Services will take place on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church (310 Lenore Dr. Saskatoon, SK) Condolences may be left for the family at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home. 306-244-5577

I wish to express our deepest condolonces to Peter's family and friends on his passing. I missed his funeral because I did not recognizi and did not hear his name even though we attended the same church in Saskatoon.
When I was first starting out in Regina, Peter gave me a hand in building my first house. He was a person who would go out of his way to help you and lend his knowledge without question.
I am so sorry that I did not get to talk to him before his passing.

Our sympathy to Helga, Michael, Annette, Ron, Peter, Lori and family. Peter, Anna and family were very welcoming to a beginning teacher in Balgonie in the early 70's, sharing their wonderful German cuisine and their wonderful cottage in northern Saskatchewan on a beautiful island. Very hard working, very family oriented and a loved life ,and enjoyed all nature's blessings. He will be missed and has left his legacy of living life fully. God Bless Peter and his family. He is in your heart forever .
