DR. PETER PINTO

Dr. Peter P. Pinto West Orange physician, real estate developer and philanthropist, loving father Dr. Peter P. Pinto, 84, formerly of West Orange, N.J., passed away peacefully on April 9, 2016, surrounded by his loving children. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, located at 556 Westfield Ave., Westfield, N.J., between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Peter was born on Jan. 2, 1932, in Scotch Plains, N.J., to Vito A. Pinto and Marie Batiste (Araneo) Pinto. Peter grew up in Scotch Plains and graduated from Seton Hall Preparatory School in 1949, where he received many academic awards and honors. He then went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania. Following his graduation from college, he embarked on a great adventure with some close friends and attended the University of Rome "La Sapienza" Medical School. He returned to Rome numerous times throughout his life. While completing his residency at Newark City Hospital, he met his wife, Olga Doris (nee Kefalas), and the couple settled in West Orange, where he opened a medical practice and they started a family. Doris predeceased Peter in 1997. In addition to his medical career, Peter was also a successful real estate developer and philanthropist. He established the Kefalas-Pinto Foundation upon Doris' death, to honor her memory, her generous nature, and her love for children, and particularly for children in need. Known as "Doc," Peter was a loving husband, father, and friend. He was known for his intelligence, quick wit, and great generosity. He always had a soft spot for the underdog. Peter is survived by his son, Vito and his wife, Donna, of Mountainside, N.J.; his son, Peter of Florida; and his daughter, Alexis and her husband, Marco Tabacco, of Basking Ridge, N.J.; his five grandchildren, Stephanie, Carolyn, Peter, Sara, and Giulia, and his sister, Josephine Pinto of Mountainside. He was also predeceased by his parents, Vito and Marie Baptiste (Araneo), and his brothers, John in 2011, and Anthony in 1980.
