Peter A. Russo, 91, of Fifth Street, Bessemer, formerly of North Cedar Street, passed away the afternoon of Nov. 3, 2009.Peter was born in New Castle on Dec. 15, 1917, a son of the late Thomas Russo and Marcella Ragozzino Russo Palumbo.Mr. Russo married Florence M. Mastrantoni on March 28, 1938. She preceded him in death on April 14, 1988.Peter retired after more than 25 years with the Pennsylvania Railroad, where he had worked as a car repairman.He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and the St. Margaret Society.Peter enjoyed music and dancing and the big band era.Mr. Russo is survived by four daughters, Stella Cooper and husband, James, of Akron, Ohio, Patty DiAntonio and husband, Paul, of Delaware, Noreen Kneram and husband, Allan, of Bessemer, and Margaret Higgins and husband, Bob, of Delaware; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Russo was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie DiMase; a sister, Carrie Medina; and a brother, Tony Russo.Visitation is 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Mill St.A procession will leave the funeral home at noon Friday for St. Vincent de Paul Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Steven Palsa will officiate.
