PETER SENNE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 27 to Dec. 31, 2014.
SENNE, Peter Edgar Of Wayland, Massachusetts, 69 years of age, Christmas morning December 25th, 2014. He was born June 6th, 1945, in Mineola, New York, attended the Greenvale School, and was a proud alumnus of Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut. He went on to graduate from Boston University (?68) and then to earn his Masters degree in Business Administration from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business (?70). With an altruistic belief in entrepreneurship, Peter spent the next 44 years working in a range of industries and capacities in and around Greater Boston. He believed that in both business and family life, the people around him deserved every opportunity to grow and support themselves, and for many, that is Peter's legacy. Peter was a generous and loving spirit. He spent many years escaping on weekends and summer months to his beloved Cape House on Bassett's Island in Bourne, Massachusetts. There, he shared his love of sailing, swimming in the open ocean, raking leaves, building tree houses, and so much more with his children, family, and many friends. Peter often recalled days on the island with all of his children as some of his happiest memories. Peter's professional endeavors included impressive forays into elementary education as Founder & President of the Preschool Operations Corporation, New York, New York (1991), business brokerage as Co-Founder, Chief Operating Officer, and Executive Vice President of VR Business Brokers, Inc. (1978-1983), consumer appliances as Executive Vice President & Director of Viking Products, Cold Spring Harbor, New York (1983-1987), financial services in healthcare as President of ISO, Inc., Wayland, Massachusetts (1986-1992), and most notably, regulatory compliance and accreditation in healthcare as President and Chairman of the Board of Total Compliance Solutions, Inc., Wellesley, Massachusetts (1992 until retirement in August 2013). Additionally, Peter served as Editor of the Journal of Healthcare Safety Compliance and Infection Control, the definitive publication in the field, from 1996-1999. Throughout much of his career, Peter served in varying Directorships and advisory board positions including Ideasphere Inc. and 39 Advisors Group, Inc. In these roles, Peter showed his commitment to the advancement of small businesses, and connecting entrepreneurs with the venture capital and experience they need to realize their visions. This account barely scratches the surface of a life of selfless and tireless work. In the tradition of Peter's father, he will be buried with his phone in hopes that his wisdom may still flow. Peter is survived by his devoted wife, Kathryn (Wall) Senne also of Wayland, Massachusetts, by his four adoring children, William P. Senne (Cambridge, MA), Holly M. Senne (Cambridge, MA), Peter E. Senne Jr. (Cambridge, MA), Berin P. Senne (Washington, DC), and his lovely stepdaughter, Lauren Goshinski (Pittsburgh, PA). Peter is also survived by his sister, Sandra Martin of Sandy Hook, Connecticut. Peter's family warmly invites friends and colleagues to honor his life on Saturday, January 3, 2015. A memorial service will be held at Duckett Funeral Home, of J.S. Waterman & Sons, 656 Boston Post Road, RT 20, SUDBURY, MA, from 12-3 PM with speakers at 2 PM. A private burial will lay Peter to rest next to his mother and father, the late Dorothy (Kloberg) Senne and Edgar Peter Senne in Cold Spring Harbor, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter's memory may be made to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Development Office, 1575 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts 02138 and/or Massachusetts General Hospital, Development Office, 100 Cambridge Street, Suite 1300, Boston, Massachusetts 02114. Peter was a great mentor to many of us in the Medsafe days. He treated each of us as family. He was a true leader but most of all he was true and loyal friend. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children. They were his reason for being, may you all find comfort in the words of those that were honored to call him a friend.

Pete was my best friend at Choate, and I was touched by how he reconnected during the last few years, insisting our politics musn't separate us, so we kidded each other a lot, as we did at Choate. I have no doubt this true kindness and fun attitude pervaded his family and work throughout his life. As they say in Australia, Good on you, Peter!

Peter was one of the bright lights of our Choate School class, and he continued to be so all during his life thereafter. His light was extinguished too soon. I'm sure that all of us will remember Peter as one of the most truly interesting and interested people we've ever met, a fine gentlemen with a big heart for his family and friends. You could not know Peter without thinking, "definitely one of the good guys." Peter will be missed. The memory of Peter's kindness, energy and friendship will survive in my heart.

I did not meet Peter after Choate, but I appreciated all of his work to bring the Class of 64 back together, especially the reunion books. In reading these condolences and learning about his many initiatives, I see he was a wonderful person whose life was too short.

Peter was a gentleman of remarkable talents and even more impressive devotion to his goals in life. His family came first as he clearly demonstrated in his communications and conversations his remarkable level of dedication to the growth and success of his children and grandchildren as well as his readily acknowledged new lease on life when he and Kathy finally married.. His remarkable sequence of corporate business successes in the informatic technology world speak for themselves His devotion to Choate and to us as a class did not come far behind.. His was the boundless and irrepressible energy that produced for us not 1 but 4 Yearbooks before and after our graduation, at the 45th, and ffinally at our 50th reunion events. Working diligently around all sorts of administrative and economic obstacles, using informatic technology tools generally reserved for persons two generations younger, he produced more than just books but rather creative and imaginatively formatted communiques that brought us closer together as a class and closer to our school. This was a life ended far too soon and a talent that had much more to offer had he been given some more time. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have worked with and learned from Pete and to have shared his friendship as well as his remarkable gifts.

Peter was one hell of a good guy and a real treasure to our class at Choate. His devotion to our class was highlighted by his leadership in our 40th & 50th year reunion Class "Redux". He personally spent hours putting together our individual histories to bring us all closer together given the knowledge of our pasts. He will be very missed and Kathy, Laurie & I will keep you and your family in our prayers. Peter was a gift to us and we thank you.

Other Choate classmates and I were saddened to learn of Peter's passing. He was instrumental in making our 50th reunion a memorable event; contacting and encouraging classmates to attend, gathering information, and finally constructing a fantastic Yearbook Redux, The Brief, which brought us all up to dat with each other. My sincere condolences to all his family.

Peter lived a full life with many accomplishments, the greatest of which (I know that he would say) was the family of four wonderful children that he and Bernadette raised. This was Peter's fondest life wish, a wish fulfilled. Peter was wise, enthusiastic, hard working, creative in business, a builder of people, and greatest of all, he was always kind. We will miss that twinkle in his eyes. So strong is his spirit that he will never really be far away.
