PETER SERENYI

SERENYI, Peter Died on October 22, 2012. He was born on January 13, 1931 in Budapest, Hungary. He immigrated to the United States in 1950 with his mother and five siblings. Graduating from Dartmouth in 1957, he earned a Master's in History at Yale University and a PhD in the history of architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. The subject of his dissertation was the Swiss architect, Le Corbusier, about whom he wrote numerous articles and edited a book, Le Corbusier in Perspective, published in 1975. His teaching career began at Amherst College, subsequently at the University of Pennsylvania and Boston University. At Northeastern University he became chairman of the Department of Art and Architecture in 1983, retiring in 1996. He also taught courses at Harvard Extension on architectural history. He was a beloved teacher and inspired many students throughout his career. He was married to Agnes nee Kertesz on August 28, 1969. He is survived by his spouse and Peter, born in 1970, residing in Bratislava, Slovakia, and Denis, born in 1974 residing in San Francisco, as well as two grandchildren, Sebastian and Emma. Burial will be at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
