Kennedy, Thomas
Thomas Kennedy, age 88 of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Anne (Cremona) Kennedy, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. He was born in Uddingston, Scotland, the youngest of seven children to the late Neil and Sarah Kennedy. Tom, affectionately known as "TK" emigrated to Fairfield in 1954 and was married to Anne for 53 years. TK's memory will be embraced by his two loving daughters, Angela Toner and her husband Andy of Fairfield and Sarah Kassay and her husband Frank of Evergreen, CO; four cherished grandchildren, Brian and Ellen Kassay and Jim and Paul Toner who all brought him great joy. TK is also survived by several nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom and America, especially Jim Dalton, Les and Mary Ann Poinelli who made countless visits, often from long distances. A special mention goes to the Kennedy first cousins who predeceased him, but with whom he shared so many songs, hearty laughs and whom he loved "like crazy." Tom and Anne were proud to be founding members of St. Pius X Parish. Tom was President of the Holy Name Society for several years. He was a devout Roman Catholic and always found great comfort in his faith, especially during his last illness. Tom was employed as a purchasing agent for Casco, Yankee Metal and, until his retirement, Allen Products. He considered himself to be so lucky to be retired for 23 years and where, until the last few weeks, he would often say" Every day's a holiday." Tom was very proud to be an American Citizen, he loved his homeland of Scotland, but his first choice was being an American. His claim to fame while in Scotland was being a body guard for Sir. Winston S. Churchill during World War II. The British Prime Minister visited Scotland and Tom was one of four boys elected to meet his entourage and escort them down the center aisle of a movie house in Glasgow where Churchill was to deliver a political speech. Tom always believed that America had been good to immigrants like himself, and he constantly strived to be good to America contributing in small ways to keep this country great. TK was so fortunate to have made wonderful friends since our mom's passing. His e-mail buddies became so dear to him. For this we thank Betty Farina, Ray Vogt, Eileen Flora, Maryann Toner, and most importantly, Kim Leon whom he loved dearly. A heartfelt thank you to his lunch pal, Joan Mahoney who reminded our Dad to remember his faith following our Mom's passing and to find joy again. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Pius X Church, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Pius X Building Fund, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield, CT 06824 or to St. John Fisher Seminary, 894 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT 06905. A gentleman and gentle man, through and through. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word to share. May he know God's comfort and peace as the angels whisk him to paradise. TK will be missed and remembered well. Love, The Capasso Family
