Carolyn Stahl Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 22 to Aug. 24, 2025.
Carolyn Stahl, of Fresno, died peacefully on August 16, 2025, in her room at the Robabeh Residential Care Facility in Fresno. The eldest child of J.B. and Lucille Poindexter, Carolyn was born on July 7, 1943, in Lubbock, Texas. When she was in the fourth grade, she moved with her parents and younger sister, Janice, to Fresno, California, where her brother Michael was born.

Carolyn graduated from Clovis High School in 1961, and went on to receive her AA from Fresno City College. On September 11, 1965, she married the love of her life, Norman Scott Stahl, an Officer of Marines, whom she had met while attending Fresno City College. Over the next 60 years, his careers in the military and in higher education took them to many places, including Okinawa, North Carolina, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, and California.

In 1984, they settled in Fallbrook, California, where Norman retired from the Marines, giving their two sons, Erich and Matt, a chance to put down roots. While living in Fallbrook, Carolyn began her nearly twenty-year career as a travel agent. Over the course of her career, she worked for Ask Mr. Foster Travel and Carlson Travel Network in Fallbrook, River Village Travel in Bonsall, and Regal Travel in Hilo.

From 2001 to 2014, she and Norman lived in Hilo, Hawaii. In 2014, upon Norman's retirement from the University of Hawaii, they moved back to Fallbrook and then, in 2018, they returned home to Fresno, where their journey had begun.

Carolyn enjoyed traveling with her husband, visiting her children and grandchildren, and attending her monthly gatherings with her fellow Clovis High School Class of 1961 alumni. She was an avid reader, and owned multiple Kindles- at least one for each room of her house.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, J.B., in 1994, and her mother, Lucille, in 2015. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Norman, of Fresno, her sister and brother-in-law Janice and Roger Tozlian, of Clovis, and her brother Michael, of Granite Bay, CA. She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law Erich and Jaime Stahl of Whidbey Island, WA, son and daughter-in-law Matt and Kristy Stahl of Buellton, CA, and her six grandchildren: Alyson of Santa Ana, CA; Sawyer of Santa Fe, NM; Emelia of Denver, CO; Molly of Whidbey Island, WA; and Bethany and Liam, of Buellton, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in Carolyn's name to the American Cancer Society for cancer research.
