Peter Trepanier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 29, 2022.
Peter Jerome Trepanier, 93, of Bend OR and Mesa AZ, passed away on July 19, 2022 after a battle with Alzheimer's.

Peter was born April 9, 1929, in Manteno, IL, the son of John Paul and Anna Josephine (Stamm) Trepanier. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1952 with B.S. degrees in Civil Engineering and Agriculture.

At college Peter met a beautiful girl who became the love of his life, Elvera Jean Lozar, whom he nicknamed "Poochie." They were married in Oxnard, California on Christmas Day 1952, shortly before he was sent overseas to serve in the U.S. Army Infantry in Korea. Peter served in Korea until 1954, receiving a Purple Heart for wounds in combat.

Peter and "Poochie" were married over 69 years and had five children: Dale Peter Trepanier, John (Jack) Alan Trepanier, Catherine Ann (Trepanier) Hook, Bruce Charles Trepanier and James Edward Trepanier. They have two grandchildren Charly M. Owens and Trevor Y. Trepanier.

After serving in Korea, Peter worked for Armco (later AK Steel) in Middletown, OH for over 33 years in various engineering, sales and management roles, including General Manager of Building Systems Group and VP of National Supply Co., and made many good friends among his coworkers. After retiring from Armco 1988 he became Chairman of The Cumberland group, a quality and productivity consulting firm.

Peter was a force of nature, determined to live his life to the fullest. He was athletic, loved hiking, and ran in the Boston Marathon. In retirement he fulfilled a boyhood dream by earning his FAA private pilot license and flying his own Cessna. After the suicide of his son Bruce, Peter championed programs in various school districts to deal with student mental health. Peter also loved photography and filled his home with beautiful scenery and memories from many hikes and trips with family and friends.

Anyone who knew Peter knew that he was the most loving husband, father and grandfather a family could ask for. Peter was predeceased by his sons Bruce, Jack (Longview TX) and Dale (Big Sandy TX), and his siblings John "Jack" Trepanier (Manteno, IL), Paula (Trepanier) Harris (Norwich, VT), and Tannisse "Tanny" (Trepanier) Iverach (Sydney, Australia). Peter is survived by his wife "Poochie", Elvera Jean (Lozar) Trepanier (Walnut Creek CA), daughter Catherine Ann (Trepanier) Hook and spouse Gary S. Hook (Pleasant Hill CA), and son James Edward Trepanier (Jefferson TX). He is also survived by his grandchildren Charly M. Owens and Trevor Y. Trepanier.

Peter will be laid to rest at the Queen of Heaven cemetery chapel in Lafayette, CA on August 16, 2022. Visitation begins 9:30 am and mass follows at 10:30 am

I want to express my condolences on Pete's passing. I was blessed to meet Pete & Poochie in 2019 through home visits as a social worker. We spent the most wonderful afternoons together. Pete shared his humor, graciousness & kind heart with me & I'm so happy to have had time with him. I recognized how special he was at the time & will continue to hold him in my ❤️.

Pete has always been a great guy and wonderful example of a husband, father, and man to our family.
We only got to know him for a little while when he and Poochie were in Arizona, and he always made us feel special. We all miss him very much.
Godspeed Pete!
Sincere condolences to family and friends.

I worked with Pete at AD&MP, a division of ARMCO Steel. As well as a coworker, ANNETTE and I were very close friends with Pete and his wife, Poochie. We at work knew even back then that Pete was going to make it big. He was a smart, creative, hardworking design engineer, had a great since of humor, was liked by almost all and he liked almost all.

I have many fond memories of visits between our families in Middletown and Dayton. Pete was always kind and loving. He had a very calm and steady demeNor, but he was also funny! My prayers for the repose of his soul and comfort and surcease of sorrow for his family.

Dad was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was a warm, genuine friend to everyone he met. He lived a full and blessed life. We will miss him and remember him with love. Your legacy continues with your children and grandchildren. A favorite memory was family vacation to Yellowstone in July and it snowed over night. We had no warm clothes and woke up with the tent caving in with snow on the roof.

Grandpa, of all the things I want to say most right now it is that I am going to miss our time together terribly. Your adventurous spirit and unwavering conviction have helped shape the woman I am today. You helped foster my love of everything outdoors from feeding the deer in your front yard, hiking to the most beautiful waterfalls, traversing state parks with unbelievable scenery, eating lunch at the top of Mt. Bachelor, flying through valleys in your Cessna, and dare I say ripping an engine or two off the back of your boat because a certain 3 yr old wanted to stay on the lake a little longer. You gave me inspiration and showed me that tenacity and perseverance are what help you to reach your goals in life. You believed I could accomplish whatever I set out to do and always knew how to boost my spirits when I was feeling disheartened and unsatisfied. You showed me the true value of love and commitment to family, treasuring every second of every day with Grandma. I aspire to have a love as strong as yours and admire you both for your dedication. I can honestly go on and on about every moment and memory but my absolute hope is you have found peace and are once again whole. The rainbow bridge has captured another part of my heart, but never too fear we all cross that bridge in due time. Give everyone a hug for me and if you find yourself feeling a little lonely you can always snuggle with my little bear. I'll see you again in the far off future. I love you.
