Peter Weisse Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 20, 2007.
BREWSTER — Peter M. Weisse, 59, died Friday, at the Bedford Veterans Administration Hospital, following a long battle with Alzheimer's.

He was the loving husband of Susan M. (Savage) Weisse.

Born in Framingham, Peter was raised and educated there, graduating from Marian High School. Shortly afterwards, he joined the Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War, stationed in Europe.

He returned to Framingham after his service time, and traveled cross country for a short time before marrying in 1983 and settling in Brewster. He worked at several Cape Cod post offices on the Lower Cape before taking the position as postmaster of the South Chatham post office. He served in that position until 2001, at which time his illness forced his early retirement.

Peter loved the ocean and all the beautiful activities that go along with it, sailing, fishing, and boating. He enjoyed reading a good book and traveling to the Virgin Islands. In his younger days, he enjoyed riding motorcycles.

Peter was known for his quick wit and his classic one-liners. He was a friend of Bill W. and a member of the National Association of Postmasters.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Caitlin; and sisters, Paula Casey of Nebraska, and Pamela Weisse of New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m., at the Coutinho-Boisse Funeral Home, 678 Main St., Harwich, with a burial service following at 1:15 p.m., at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the funeral home.

Donations are suggested in his memory to Alzheimer's Services of Cape Cod and the Islands Inc., 712 Main St., Hyannis, MA 02601.
