There are so many men and women in this world who live their lives in a quiet unassuming way but who impact the lives of so many, for me they are the unsung heroes. It is through how they live their lives and the way they come across to those who know them. I feel over our lives we meet them and if we are lucky we get to know them and if we are blessed they become our friend.
Just recently one of those people passed away, suddenly and totally unexpected. Even in his death he has had a profound impact on me, it has made me remember him from the first time we met till now, memory's that I had put aside, away buried in the back of one's mind. Great memories, life changing memory's, memories that without realising it had and have changed how I live in areas of my life.
Phil Tickle was an adventurer a pioneer and he has left a legacy that will live on in the hearts of the 10,000's of people who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a man of the utmost honesty and integrity a man who understood the value of the family unit, a man created a place that for a time you could feel safe, warm and special. A place where your children and the time you could spend with them was what was important.
To may he was a father figure and grandfather figure a friend and a great mate, Phil was a true man of the old school, there was no sugar coating what needed to be said unless it was needed, there was no dribble it was simple a spade was a spade, but that spade could be used for so many uses. He was the person who could give you the kick up the backside and you did not feel the point of his boot but you felt understood the lesson, he could bend down and talk to a 4 year old and make them feel special, his smile was infectious, his words, well you held on to every syllable spoken as the wisdom was there.
He was that person that when you went to stay you longed to have some time with, just to talk and listen, he had a way of making you just feel special. In saying all this he was not a man of lots of words, but what he spoke where great words. Over time he went from the man who owned one of the most special family get away spots on the planet to becoming a friend, that friend that we see a couple of times a year but we cannot wait to see, sort of like a grandparent who live a long way a way.
At Siesta Park between Busselton and Dunsborough his Father, Phil, Marg, Greg and Jane have created a place that every family should go stay at for a week, a place that helps to bring back the word Family into our hectic lives. This is a place that was created not for the economics but for those that just need to reconnect with themselves and the families. He has left and I can say in good hands this wonderful place for future generations to come and reconnect. Everywhere you look you can see his hands, the furniture, buildings, pathways and design all have Phil's DNA.
Mr Tickle (Phil) I am proud that I had the chance to meet you, I am thankful I had the chance to become a friend, but I am so great full that I had the chance to get to know you. Over the last 27 years you helped part of me become who I am today and for that I will never forget you.
