Philip Acker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 26, 2006.
ACKER, PHILIP 1912 to 2006 A native of California, he came to La Jolla at age nine where his parents opened up a restaurant. When he wasn't learning how to surf he did chores, among which was to milk the family cow (who was allowed to roam where Fay street is now)! He also fed the family chickens. Years later he opened up a camera store in La Jolla celebrating a 50 year anniversary for his store before he retired, and moved to Point Loma. He joined the San Diego Yacht Club in 1957 and was a "life member." He sailed with the '110' Fleet and won many trophies, including one in Hawaii. He was also a member of the Historical Society of La Jolla where he recently was a guest speaker, telling many delightful stories of the 'Good Ole Days', in La Jolla. He is survived by his wife Penni Acker, his son John Steven Acker, his daughter, Patti Lambky, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Services were held at the San Diego Yacht Club Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com
