Philip Balsam Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 12, 2025.
Philip Roy Balsam, 99, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, in Chatsworth, California. Born on February 19, 1926, in New York, New York, he lived a long and meaningful life marked by dedication to family, service to his country, and a deep passion for music and sports.

During World War II, Philip proudly served in the United States Navy as a signalman in the Pacific Theater. His time in the military reflected his steadfast commitment to duty and his enduring sense of responsibility-qualities that would define him throughout his life.

A gifted jazz musician, Philip found joy and expression through music. He played the drums, trombone, and clarinet with enthusiasm and skill. Whether performing or simply enjoying the rhythms of jazz, music remained a lifelong companion. In addition to his musical talents, he was an avid tennis player and hockey enthusiast who embraced both the competition and camaraderie of sport.

Those who knew Philip remember him as a caring, hardworking, and reliable man-a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose presence brought warmth and strength to those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share in his remarkable journey.

Philip Roy Balsam will be deeply missed. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Graveside Service will be held on August 17, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM at Mount Sinai 5950 Forest Lawn Drive
