Philip Brodsky Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 27, 2025.
Philip David "Phil" Brodsky, 90, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, in Oceanside, New York. Born on November 1, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York, Phil lived a full and meaningful life marked by devotion to family, service to his country, and a deep connection to his faith and community.

Phil proudly served as a medic during the Korean War. His time in the Army left an indelible mark on him, and he loved sharing stories from those years-stories that reflected not only his bravery but also his compassion and humor. His service was a source of pride throughout his life.

A man of deep faith and tradition, Phil was an active member of the Oceanside Jewish Center. He took great pride in his Jewish identity and heritage and found joy in observing the Sabbath with his beloved wife Harriet. Their shared commitment to their faith was a cornerstone of their 67-year marriage-a bond built on love, respect, and unwavering support.

Phil's warmth and charm were evident to all who knew him. With a quick wit and a fabulous sense of humor, he could light up any room. His gentle mannerisms made people feel at ease, while his wisdom made him a trusted confidant. Whether offering heartfelt advice or simply sharing a laugh, Phil had an extraordinary ability to connect with others.

He was a devoted husband to Harriet and a loving father to his three children: Howard, Lenard, and Jacalyn. As a grandfather to Randy, Jamie, and Harris, he brought joy and guidance into their lives. He also cherished his relationships with his daughter-in-law Felicia and son-in-law Gary. Phil's family was the center of his world; being around him brought comfort and happiness beyond measure.

Among the many joys in Phil's life were tennis matches under the sun, leisurely rounds of golf, and playful moments with his two granddogs, Lucky and Goldie. These simple pleasures reflected the richness of a life well-lived-one filled with laughter, love, and lasting memories.

To those closest to him-especially his daughter Jacalyn-Phil was more than just a father; he was a hero, a best friend, an unwavering source of strength. Their daily conversations were treasured moments that will forever echo in her heart.

Philip David Brodsky leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, humor, and love that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

May his memory be for a blessing. Rest in peace, Daddy. A Graveside Service was held on June 26, 2025 at Wellwood cemetery.

My sister Susan and I are so sad to learn of Phil's passing. We were loving friends and neighbors on Concord Avenue and in Florida for many, many years. My parents considered Phil and Harriet their closest friends. Our deepest love and condolences to Harriet, Lenny, Jackie and their families.

This photo was taken at Susan't wedding. The couple standing on the left are Judy and Dick Rosenblum who lived on one side of us, my parents are sitting next to my dad's partner, and Harriet and Phil who lived on the other side of us are standing on the right. A great neighborhood!

Phil and I started our friendship in 1955. We both worked in the fabric industry. Our friendship developed and soon included our wives. Our career paths crossed again when I started a plastic cover business and introduced Phil to start one too. I´ll miss my long time friend and our laughs and talks about old times.

Jac, I have memories of your mom and dad, your brothers, aunt, uncle and cousins, and the feeling that sticks is I always thought everyone was my family too! I love these childhood memories. I hadn´t seen your dad in so many years but the love he showed will last forever. Nothing but warm memories of family and love. May thoughts like these hold you during this awful time. He was loved. And so are you.
One more thing, dad sends his love to you and mom. He felt like we all did, just so sad. Love you, little sis

Phil was handsome and charming and had a delightful sense of humor. In our last conversation he told me two delightful tales. He was a loyal Jew,
member of Oceanside Jewish Center. He was a wonderful and loving husband to Harriet and a terrific father to his three children and then a superb grandfather. And he was a loyal and faithful friend to many. Al mekomo yavo beshalom.

Dear Harriet, Jackie and Lenny,
I am saddened at the news of Phil's passing. He was such a gentle soul, a dedicated husband and father and the son of my favorite aunt. I loved his soft spoken style (so unlike the Berger family) and his wonderful wide smile...the same smile that Aunt Dorothy, my Dad, Eddie and all the Bergers have/had. My dad loved Philly so much as he did the whole family and I think of my Dad at his passing. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. He will live on in your hearts always I know. Harriet, you, Jackie and Phil were so dear to my Dad and he appreciated your calls and desire to visit. I'm sorry that never happened but he loved you for making the offer. You are all in my thoughts as I know what a difficult time this must be. I will be in touch by phone soon.
With sadness and deep affection, your cousin, Sherri Berger

My parents love was a union of joint decisions, their love of each other shines through each & everyday.

They did , went together constantly.
They were magical parents together.
Dad was always looking out for mom right to the last months he would daily share all his wishes he wanted for my mom .
Their love was larger than life.
