Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 17, 2024.
Phil Curtis, 73, of Fort McCoy, Florida, went to his final resting place on June 9, 2024 to be with his beloved wife on nearly 51 years, Debra Jean Elizabeth (Pete) Curtis. Phil passed over peacefully with his daughter Rhonda and her two youngest children, Kasey and Wyatt by his side quietly playing a game of cards at the foot of his bed. Phil had made his home with his grandson, Tyler Rowe.

Philip Vernon Curtis, known as Phil, was a proud patriotic American who believed in our Constitution. He was a man of many talents with a sense of wanderlust that led him to various states in pursuit of his dreams. Phil had a deep love for animals, especially his dogs, cats, and horses. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. As a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, Phil's kindness and love touched the lives of many.

Born on July 25, 1950, in Worcester, MA, living most of his adult life in Michigan and Florida Phil served his country as a Vietnam Veteran in the 173rd Airborne Brigade from January 1969 to October 1971, holding the rank of Private First Class.

Throughout his life, Phil pursued diverse and exciting careers, including mining in Michigan, Montana, and Florida, environmental and resource recovery work, vintage car restoration, woodworking, and managing a firewood business. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to engaging ventures and experiences.

Phil's hobbies included reading, classic car restoration, competitive shooting, gunsmithing, gun collecting, panning for gold, woodworking, and exploring flea markets for treasures.

He is survived by his daughters Rhonda K. Covington and Bridget M. Curtis; grandchildren Tyler Rowe, Kasey Andrus, Wyatt Curtis, Royden Curtis, Brandon Dillie, and great-grandson Scott Curtis; sister Cheryl E. McLaughlin; brothers Thomas M. Curtis and Gary L. Curtis; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Phil was preceded in death on June 14, 2023 by his beloved wife of nearly 51 years Debra J. Curtis. I will miss my father dearly. He has Taught me so much in life and and I feel our time was cut short because I still have so much to learn. I find peace knowing that he is now forever with my mother. He truly could not live with out her.

Love you, Dad.

Love Rhonda, Tyler, Kasey & Wyatt
