Philip Lee Johnson, 63, of 247 Woodside Road, Towanda, Pa., passed away Friday morning, Oct. 30, 2015 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pa.

Philip was born Jan. 22, 1952 in Sayre, Pa., the son of Vernon Johnson and Beatrice Young Johnson. He spent his early years growing up in Terrytown, Pa., and was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School. Philip was a veteran of the Viet Nam War having served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Mediterranean, Puerto Rico and San Diego, Calif. Philip retired from GTP in Towanda in July of 2011 following 31 years of service. He was a life-member of the Marine Corps League and was a member of Beirne-Webster VFW Post No. 1568, Towanda, and the Monroeton Rod & Gun Club. Philip was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family and friends. He will be fondly remembered by many for his positive personality and for his ability to make others laugh. His family includes his wife, Jacqueline Cardene Johnson, whom he married on Sept. 14, 1991; mother, Beatrice Johnson of Towanda; daughter and son-in-law, Stacy L. Kline and Marvin Kline of Fleetwood, Pa.; daughter, Heather Johnson of Elmira, N.Y.; and son, Garrett Philip Johnson of Towanda; grandchildren, Jorden, Adriana and Jacob Kline, Ellie Grace and Phoebe Kae Deramus; brothers, Garry Johnson and wife Nancy Johnson of Laceyville, Kevin Johnson and Hope Whipple of Camptown; sisters, Patricia Latimer and husband, Neil of Macedonia, Judy Robinson of Towanda; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friends, Perry Maddox and Bob Kasson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Johnson and brother, Larry Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa., with Rev. Heather Baker, pastor of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church officiating. The Penn-York Detachment of the Marine Corps League will accord military honors at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home. Jackie and family . So many years ago I met a good friend . Philo was ONE of a kind . He had such a great heart and lived to laugh . So quick witted ! Some of things he could come up with ! I was so shocked to hear of his passing, no knowledge he was ill . So sad to hear , but knowing he is no longer in pain must give you some comfort . So hard to think of him not being there for you and family. He touched everyone he met. Such good laughs and brighten up the days . Keep thinking of those . Stay close with your friends and family . He is watching out for you . Take care . No one who met him will forget him . A very special person . Rest in peace Phil .

Words cannot express what my heart feels. You, my friend, were exceptional, in so many ways. I think often to the friend candle holder on your patio table. You said, may we always be like this, hands and lives together, never separating. I can speak for all of us in that chain of friendships when I say, its not broken, even now, your there. I will miss your smiling face Phil, your presence will always be with us. I shall see you on the other side brother Phil. Walk on those golden streets. Plant your garden on pure soil. Bask in the sunlight on high.

Our loss is truly heavens gain. What a wonderful soul many of us were lucky to know. Phil was full of good life knowledge and experiences. How lucky I was to have known him. To all of his family I extend my sincere sympathy. Find comfort in knowing that he is finally pain free and back to being his true self. I know for sure that all of heaven has been loving his entrance and have still not stopped laughing and enjoying his stories since his arrival. RIP Good Friend...til we meet again.
