Philip Kosanovich Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 7, 2023.
Philip Stephen Kosanovich, age 88, passed away of natural causes peacefully June 3, 2023. "Philly" entered eternity after a life well lived. Philly was born in Hammond, Indiana, to Mary Davis (Kosanovich) and Philip Kosanovich. He grew up in Calumet City, Illinois, and attended Thornton Fractional North High School. Upon graduation from TF North, he attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, where he studied business and played football. After two years, Philly enlisted in the Army and served as a Military Police Officer (MP) in Germany. After serving in the United States Army, Philly returned home and attended Northwestern University, graduating with a degree in business.

The best moment of his life was meeting Maureen Dulian on a blind date set up by his best friend. On that night they both concluded that they would never marry each other. However, God had other plans...they fell in love and shortly thereafter were married on July 15, 1961. During their almost 62 years of marriage, they raised 4 children in Lombard, Illinois where they have lived for the past 53 years.

Philly went on to a successful career in retail with Montgomery Wards and Service Merchandise. Upon retirement he enjoyed traveling with Maureen, reading vociferously, playing Texas Hold 'Em and doing crossword puzzles. Once Philly became a grandfather, he enjoyed attending youth sporting events and giving history lessons to his grandkids. Later in life, Philly and "Mo" enjoyed the fun and camaraderie of the Lombard Pool Pals. Philly was the regular emcee of their annual end of the season dinner.

In the end, this firm and fair Dad, lived his life for his wife Maureen, making sure, she had the best care possible, care only he could provide.

Philly is survived by his beautiful wife Maureen (nee Dulian) of almost 62 years, daughters Julie Kosanovich, and Lisa Kosanovich, sons, Stephen Kosanovich (Nancy Smithe), and Peter Kosanovich (Kimberly), 5 grandchildren Shelby Kosanovich, Carson Kosanovich, Cole Kosanovich, Elliana Kosanovich, and Cooper Kosanovich.

What a lovely celebration of life on Saturday. I only met Phil 5 years ago when we moved onto his block. We had numerous conversations when he´d be out on a walk. After listening to the eulogy at the service, I wish I had more time to know Phil better. I do know he was a kind and gentle man who cared deeply for Maureen. I also know Lisa was a devoted daughter who was at the house to help her parents almost daily. I am so very sorry for your loss. Phil will be missed by all.

I give you my deepest sympathy. I enjoyed walking and talking with Phil at the pool. He had a lot to say about any subject.

After thinking that was probably the last time he´d be on his roof. I was wrong and he was up there cleaning his gutters a few months later. When his body started to betray him he fought back with his mind and will power. We had a conversation a few weeks ago and we traded a few verbal jabs , had a few laughs ,as we´ve always done over the last 10 years being neighbors . Phil being Phil no matter what. Well done. Well
done my friend . Condolences to all his family.
