Philip Renouf Obituary

RENOUF _ Philip Alex died December 24, 2006 in Vancouver aged 83 after a brief period of illness. Alex born January 11, 1923 in St. Helier Jersey in the Channel Islands grew up at Petit Alva the farm of his parents in St. Peter Jersey. Where they bred Jersey, bulls farmed vegetable crops, and made cider in the traditional style. A pupil at Victoria College Jersey he developed a love of athletic activity; this served him well while escaping from German occupied Jersey to France in a small rowing boat. In England, he joined the British army serving until demobilization in 1945. In 1946, he was married to Hester Cattanach currently of Inverness Scotland and they had three children, though divorced, they have remained in touch since Hester has visited Canada annually for many years. Alex, always a lively articulate conversationalist with a great wit and an opinion on absolutely everything had many friends and acquaintances both overseas and his adopted home Canada. He will be missed by daughters Julia Kirk, Wimbledon England; Helen Harris, Marbella Spain; son Philip Renouf,daughter in law Virginia Valentini, six grandchildren, Justin Brennan and wife Shauna, Andrew, Maria Renouf, of Kelowna BC; Alex Kirk, Edinburgh Scotland; Nicholas Harris, Wimbledon England; Melissa Harris, Sydney Australia; and great grandchildren Lyric Brennan of Kelowna BC; and Sam Drysdale Edinburgh Scotland. Alex was predeceased by his parents Philip Hedley Renouf and Helen Cristobel Renouf and Sister Valerie Renouf all of Jersey CI. A farewell to our friend and father will be held Thursday, January 11, 3pm- 6pm at the Officers Mess, 620 Beatty Street at Beatty and Dunsmuir Vancouver.
