Philip "Phil" Thomas Rodilosso

Philip T. Rodilosso, affectionately known as "Flip", "Frito", and most often simply Phil, passed away peacefully in Wilmington, North Carolina, surrounded by love on Sunday April 6th 2025. He was 82.

Born in Astoria, NY and raised in Garden City, NY, Phil graduated from Garden City High School with honors, Colgate University, and earned his MBA from the The University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business.

He married Nancy Jane Wenk that same year he graduated with his MBA, just before serving in the U.S. Army as an officer, where he ranked as a Second Lieutenant during the Vietnam War. A creative and spirited leader, he once turned humble bingo nights into legendary events by revitalizing the game during his time in Alabama-turning modest prizes like Volkswagens into extravagant wins such as AC Cobras, boats, and even airplanes.

Phil began his investment career at Banker's Trust. He also taught investment courses briefly at Adelphi University at the start of his career. Later Phil became a Managing Partner at Oppenheimer Capital. A respected voice in finance, he appeared on CNBC. He gave generously of his time to his churches and community.

An avid golfer, Phil shot two hole-in-ones and was active at both Long Island's North Fork and Wilmington, NC's Landfall Country clubs. He served on various Landfall committees and found joy in connecting with others through service.

Phil had a deep love for books, cars, and meaningful conversation. A true car enthusiast, he owned over 100 vehicles in his lifetime, raced his outfitted porsche for a number of years at tracks in the northeast, and loved sharing his car passion with friends, the "Amigos."

Phil was blessed with many friends, a number of whom remained close for nearly his entire life and he greeted new friends as old. He had a quick wit and was well loved in his community.

After the loss of his beloved wife Nancy and daughter Susanne, Phil found love again with Janice Anderson. They married in 2020.

Phil was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Wenk Rodilosso; his younger daughter Susanne Rodilosso Gravelle; his sister Lois Rodilosso Kaivani; and his parents Philip J. Rodilosso and Mary V Rodilosso.

Phil is survived by his devoted wife Janice; loving daughter Lisa; adored grandchildren Catherine, Abigail, Gavin, Ellot, and Julian; Brother-in-law Pete; former son-in-law Jeffrey; Jeffrey's wife Kerri; former son-in-law William; stepson Matthew; cherished extended family including sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces & nephews and step-grandchildren of all generations.

He was the honorary "kids' table" member at every holiday-always ready with warmth, wit, and stories. Phil gave generously to causes close to his heart, including Colgate University, PAWS Place, theAFTD.org, and Wrightsville United Methodist Church.

Phil lived a life full of love, laughter, and purpose. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, connection, strength and smiles.

A memorial service will be held at Kenan Chapel, Wilmington NC on April 18, 2025 at 1pm.

I came across a colleague from Oppenheimer today and Phil's name immediately sprung to mind. So I looked him up.
Phil was fundamental in helping shape my career as a young investment adviser in San Juan, Puerto Rico in the late '80s.

A gentleman, a scholar, consummate professional...his bright smile, his smarts, his counsel, his vocation remain in my heart to this day.
I was so saddened to come across this news.

May he rest in peace. My kindest regards to his family.

Heartfelt sympathy to you Janice and your family. Janice and Phil were a special and loving couple for only five years. Janice and Phil made a great team playing duplicate bridge. Together they place first in many bridge tournaments. Janice studied Ikebana, Japanese Flower Arranging, and was very good and enthusiastic to learn. Phil supported this art form and was very helpful to her. Indeed, Phil will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Dear Lisa & Rodilloso Family,

I will forever cherish the many wonderful memories I shared with Phil, and his family, especially all the great times we enjoyed each other’s company while sharing a meal together with some great wines, tracking our Porsches out at the old Bridgehampton circuit or just hanging out together appreciating fun conversations and always enjoying many laughs. He had such a warm, friendly manner and way of being that allowed, even invited authentic connection. We both enjoyed telling jokes and he always had me tell this one silly joke when we the right moment arrived, and he would laugh as hard as if he heard it for the very first time. We both really enjoyed great wines and delicious food, and Nancy prepared an Italian meal on several occasions that was thoroughly enjoyed over warm conversations that always brought us smiles and laughter. We shared a bond over Porsche 911’s and tracking them, and then sharing our unique moments over a meal that weekend. I will always appreciate deeply the heartfelt friendship we shared, Phil was more like an older brother than a friend, and only when he moved to NC and later I moved to Texes - so it become challenging to stay in touch. I last saw Phil the Summer before Nancy passed and Suzie was diagnosed with her brain illness. I will always honor him and my memories we shared until we meet again. Lisa sending you and all your family my love, gratitude and appreciation for being blessed by your Dad’s presence in my life. May he RIP and be united with all his loved ones in heaven.

Our deepest condolences to Janice and Lisa. Phil was a wonderful gentleman we always enjoyed chatting with whenever we saw him, whether it was at Roko’s, the sports center, walking on Landfall Dr or golfing. He will be greatly missed at Landfall. Nancy and Phil hosted a going away party in their beautiful Garden City home for my brother John who was leaving for a job in Hong Kong. This was about 29-30 yrs ago. I’ll never forgot their kind generosity to our family. John and Phil loved to race their Porsche’s out east. They met at my brothers restaurant Newport Grill. Immediate friendship ensued. God bless you all and may Phil rest in peace eternally.

Phil and I met in 2008 at Starbucks on Military Cutoff.. I had driven my 64 GTO there for early morning coffee and small talk with friends. He appeared one day and was immediately drawn to my car which struck up a conversation about his many cars (100+) owned during his life. We became
immediate “ Amigos” and within weeks he showed up at Starbucks with his own muscle car. From there other “Amigos “ appeared and before long the official “ Amigos Car Club” was born. We met everyday, not a typo.from 5-7am.it was a bunch of old guys in our own “little boy world” that we created.we were all 16 again and loving our early mornings together..For over 10 years we traveled the country going to car shows, car auctions, the Corvette factory in Kentucky. At the drop of a hat we’d assemble our cars in a long line parade and take off to a nearby restaurant or event.Phil was always ready for the next adventure or road trip. He never missed an opportunity to take off to get ice cream or sweet treats somewhere. I can’t say I ever had a better friend..he was a the best “ Amigo” to so many of us. We all love you Phil
