Philip Wohlhuter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 11, 2015.
The funeral service for Philip J. Wohlhuter, 58, of Stewartville, will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday (Aug. 13, 2015) at the Grace Evangelical Free Church in Stewartville, with Dr. John Grams and the Rev. Andrew Langseth officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville.

Mr. Wohlhuter died on Monday (Aug. 10, 2015) surrounded by family at his home, from complications of a lifelong illness with vasculitis.

Philip John Wohlhuter was born on Oct. 12, 1956, in Fairmont, to Vern and Phyllis (Storbeck) Wohlhuter. He grew up on the family farm in rural Martin County, and after the death of his father, moved at the age of 13 to Welcome, where he attended school and graduated from Welcome High School in 1975. He then attended Southwest State University in Marshall, graduating in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management. He was initially employed in food service management at the Kahler Hotel in Rochester. Phil was married on May 2, 1981, in Rochester to Donna M. Frank. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Stewartville, where they raised their family and continued to make their home. Phil continued his education, and graduated from the Mayo Clinic School of Health-Related Sciences in 1987 with an associate degree in medical lab technology. He was employed as a medical lab technician at Mayo Clinic in Rochester for more than 25 years. Donna is a longtime Mayo Clinic employee in Rochester in quality management services.

Phil was a member of Grace Evangelical Free Church in Stewartville. He was a longtime member of the Association of Clinical Pathology and the S.E. Minnesota Chapter of the Vasculitis Foundation. Phil and Donna enjoyed following their children's school and sporting events, and Phil volunteered with the Stewartville Youth Athletic Association for several years and served a term as board president. He was an avid fisherman, making his own lures and looking forward to family vacations at Leech Lake, where they fished for northern pike. Phil was a great cook and enjoyed feeding his family and his kids' friends. He liked to read, play cards, especially solo, canasta and cribbage. Phil loved time spent with family, especially with his grandson, Kaden.

Philip is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons and a daughter, Andrew (Amanda) and grandson, Kaden of Stewartville, Robert and his fiancé Adrian Teagle of Rochester, and Amy Wohlhuter of Davenport, Fla.; his mother, Phyllis Rudig of Stewartville; two brothers and a sister, Rex (Kathy) Wohlhuter of Sherburn, Gerald Wohlhuter (Lynn Patterson) of Montevideo, and Jan Snell of St. Albert, Alberta, Canada; six nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vern; his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Rose Wohlhuter; maternal grandparents, John and Elvina Storbeck; and a brother-in-law, David Snell.

A time of visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 12, 2015) at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday morning.

The family suggests memorials to the Stewartville Youth Athletic Association, the Stewartville Morning Lions or the Vasculitis Foundation.
