Phillip Bertoni

Phillip Bertoni, 61, of Ashburnham, died peacefully Tuesday evening January 25, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. Phil was born in Uniontown, PA, August 24, 1949, the son of the late Paul and Thelma (Thomas) Bertoni. He moved to Massachusetts in 1966 to attend M.I.T. In 1978 he moved to Ashby, and then to Ashburnham 4 years ago. Phil was a teacher with the North Central Charter Essential School in Fitchburg for many years. He was a talented and accomplished musician, playing in a band called Inside Straight. Phil was well educated and his quest for knowledge was unending. Phil was a talented writer who had a long-time column in the Boston Globe, wrote for the Boston Phoenix, and authored the book "Strangers in Computerland." Among his many talents, Phil also found time to host a syndicated TV show called Computer World. Phil will be remembered for his sense of humor, his incomparable intellect, and as a loving father, brother, uncle, companion, and teacher. Phil will be sadly missed by his daughter; Meg Bertoni of Idaho Springs, CO, his fiancee; Cynthia Campbell of Ashburnham, his sister; Melanie Bertoni Jordan of Peterborough, NH, his favorite niece Sarah Jordan, two nephews, Benjamin and Thomas Jordan, and his fiancee's children who loved him dearly; Mason and Allegra Hangen. Relatives and friends are planning to honor and celebrate Phillip's life by gathering for a memorial service in the Community Chapel of Lamoureux Fletcher and Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central St. Gardner, on Saturday January 29, 2011 beginning at 11AM. A calling hour will be in the funeral home Saturday January 29, 2011 from 10AM until the start of the service. Burial will be in Uniontown, PA at a later date.
